The Agriculture Department asked farmers to plant 390000 acres of smooth wheat and 4000 acres of wrinkled pens for red purposes in 1947 as part of a nationwide drive. Fred Thomas Guest, 24, Pleasanton, cab driver for Pleasanton Taxi, crashed into a Western Pacific freight train at Santa Rita road. Guest’s widow Doris Jean and their six month old child Fred win a survive.
U S Rains Manuilski formally asked the United Nations Security Council to investigate the Greece Albania dispute, citing British troops in Greece as a cause of trouble in the Balkans. He said the letter to Secretary General Lie warned of direct British intervention aiding aggressive elements ahead of the September referendum.
Yugoslav News Agency Tanjug cites Marshal Tito accusing United States planes of spying on Yugoslavia’s frontier zones. He says flights over upper Slovenia by allied transport and passenger planes are deliberate provocation to intimidate citizens and aid anti Yugoslav elements.
The Pioneer Days Reception for early area residents and pioneer descendants will be held Saturday September 28 at the Veterans Memorial building.
