Alameda County Consables Seek Civil Service Status on Fall Ballot

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted to place a measure on the November 4 ballot to grant civil service status to county constables. If approved by voters and then by the state legislature, constables would be eligible for reappointment by the sheriff, replacing current appointment by election. The move follows a long-standing charter issue and aims to protect rural districts from interim gaps in policing.
