Man Dies in Niles Canyon After Strain on Pole
Myron B. Smith a 67 year old lineman for Southam Pacific was found hanging from a telephone pole in Niles Canyon from a safety strap and died of a heart attack an autopsy confirmed the cause. He is survived by his wife and son Richard Savith of Berkeley two sisters Olive Osborne Quincy TL and Harriet Smith. A private funeral is planned at Sorensen Bros Chapel at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Two Small Fires in Hayward Area No Major Damage
Two small fires occurred yesterday in Hayward area. One at a Mount Eden rest home started when a painter left paper over a floor furnace. Superintendent Margaret Conner extinguished it. The other, in Palomares Canyon, began beside the road from a cigarette and spread up steep brush. By 8 45 p m both fires were under control with no loss reported.
