Mile Long Parade Opens Alameda County Products Show

Crowds exceed two thousand attend coronation of show queen Minnie Operman of Livermore as the Alameda County Products Show opens at Memorial Park. A mile long illuminated parade through Castro street features bands, drum corps, and decorated fronts. San Leandro day, pageant of the four seasons, and prize awards for parade entries are scheduled through Friday.

William Hickman Sentenced to Die in October

William Edward Hickman, known as The Fox, was resentenced in Los Angeles to die on the gallows in October for the murder of 12-year-old Marion Parker. The proceeding was held in San Quentin with no dramatic ceremony and Hickman’s family absent.

Fatal Livermore Crash Claims Former Hayward Resident

Ernest L. Sessions a 43 year old former Hayward resident was killed instantly when his car collided with a heavy truck on Livermore avenue near the Livermore highway. He died from a fractured skull after being thrown from the vehicle. An inquest is planned by deputy coroner J C Reimers. Survived by wife Mrs Numa Sessions and infant daughter Gaile, he was a carpenter and a member of Sycamore Lodge No 129 Odd Fellows Hayward. Funeral set for Friday at Sorensen mortuary with Sycamore Lodge in charge. interment Lone Tree cemetery.

Poultry Expert to Speak Saturday at Central California Show

Alameda County Farm Products Show Pet Parade Honors Prizes

About 5000 people watched Thursday’s Alameda County Farm Products show parade featuring 600 children, decorated bicycles, wagons, and floats. Queen Minnie Opperman led in purple auto with court, followed by Goat Island naval band, children in costumes, and pets from dogs to squirrels. Five judges will award prizes Friday based on originality, comicality, ideas, care, and attractiveness.

Legion to Raise Fund for Hayward Band Uniforms

The Hayward American Legion post agreed to a plan to raise money for band uniforms. Willard Smith of Tacoma proposed the drive and will secure a headquarters location. A post meeting on August 16 will decide further campaign details.

War victims to be listed on Idaho tablet at Hayward campus

Idaho memorial gym to feature a bronze tablet with names of more than seven men who died in the World War. Fred Gracey of Hayward, son of W. E. and Mrs Gracey, is among the honored names, contributed by the American Legion Auxiliary. Gracey’s mother is active in legion work.

Dahlia Expert to Speak at Hayward Garden Club Meeting

Mrs Edna Spencer of Alameda a leading dahlia grower and exhibitor will address Hayward Garden Club at 2 pm Monday at the Fat Bureau office. She has won prizes in Alameda and San Francisco shows and raises many dahlia varieties. Plans for a September dahlia show and Farm Products show matters will be discussed.

Highway Racer Cited into Court

Frank Freitas of Oakland petitioned motorists to stage highway races while Traffic Officer Norman Vadnall trailed unseen. Freitas tried to entice others to race and was cited for speeding in Livermore court next week.

Opening of Alameda County Fair Celebrated by Mile Long Parade

Crowds line Castro Street for a mile long procession signaling the 1928 Alameda County Fair. Hayward officials, the police band and fire department led the parade with floats from Rotary Lions and Woodmen groups. Veterans, scouts and local clubs followed as crowds filled lower Castro Street.
