Six Injured In Auto Crashes Near Hayward
Six persons were injured in three automobile accidents near Hayward on Sunday. Ed F. Smith, a Hayward real estate man, fractured two ribs when his car was struck at Castro Valley and Foothill boulevards. Joseph Chabante, 45, of Alviso, was severely cut after being thrown through Craspo’s windshield in a collision at Valle Vista. Craspo’s car overturned after being hit by Henry’s vehicle. Chabante remained in critical but improving condition. The wreckage trapped Smith briefly. Mrs. McLaughlin of Monterey was also injured when her car struck the Smith vehicle, which overturned. A third crash near Fairmont hospital involved Peter Ratto. two passengers in Ratto’s car and Julia Christy in Kubilus’s car sustained only cuts and bruises. A fourth collision on Centerville road left no injuries.

Eagles Band to Attend National Convention in San Francisco
Edenaerie of the Fraternal Order for Eagles hopes to send its new 16 piece band to the national convention in San Francisco on August 11 and 12. Ed Carr leads the band which has shown substantial progress after recent organization. The local lodge held a family night at Silva Hall with about 200 attending a supper and dance to Rendon's orchestra followed by a brief business meeting.

War relic display preps for Hayward VFW event Saturday
An exhibit of German uniforms helmets and paraphernalia fills a Castro street window for the Hayward VFW post 399 parade and installation night this Saturday. Up to 1000 bay region VFW members families and friends are expected with drill teams drum corps and the San Francisco post band leading a caravan from San Leandro. Chief Louis J. Silva coordinates a parade through the city prior to the high school ceremony in which 46 to 50 men will join the Hayward post commanded by Bert B. Thompson.

A series of grass fires in Castro Valley continues with a July blaze behind the Oakland subdivision on Williams street. About 20 acres burned before 36 firefighters contained the fire. a man seen arriving by car with an Oakland license fled as flames flared. Drought Threatens Distant Farm Areas With No Rain
Washington reports a major drought threat east of the Mississippi unless rain falls within 10 days. Louis J. Taber of the National Grange urged President Hoover at the White House to consider government aid for farmers. Miss Forbes Weds Aviation Sergeant at Alameda Church
Miss Anna Forbes adopted daughter of Mrs. John T. Carren of Harvard married Charles Lee at Alameda Congregational church. The bride taught at Camoche grammar school near Stockton. Lee, an aviation instructor sergeant at Riverside, will move to the bay area and be promoted to second lieutenant. A dinner followed, then a honeymoon trip. Two Harvard men killed by train at B street crossing
Two local men, William Patrick Glaney and John Sherrick, both South Hayward residents and cannery workers, died when their car was struck by a southbound Western Pacific train at the B street crossing around 11 15 Monday. Sherrick died instantly. Glaney died later at Hayward Central Hospital. Sherrick leaves a wife and two daughters. Glaney a wife. An investigation by Coroner Grant D Miller and Deputy Coroner Walter Flier is underway.
