City council agrees to changes in outfall sewer plans for Hayward, including larger pipe diameter and 1000 foot extension into the bay. City Engineer Jesse A B Holly to prepare revised specs for a special meeting next Saturday for final adoption amid growth and safety considerations.
Hayward Elementary opens on August 22 with 36 regular teachers and six special teachers under new Supervising Principal Robert M. Steid of Alameda. The official calendar lists Labor Day Admission Day Visiting Day Armistice Day Thanksgiving one week institute Christmas vacation and graduation days with classes ending June 3 and a Kodak picture album advertised for $1 at Hayward Drug Co.
Mayor Robert A Kolze presided as trustees attended. Superintendent James D Emalley of the water department said hydrants were installed at the Hunt Bros plant on lower B street and progress was reported on laying a messenger line to serve residents west of Alice and south of C street.
Warrenite wearing surface completes six blocks of new paving connecting Castro and Soto at Grace and Simon streets. The improved area along Grace, Pierce, and Simon boosts neighborhood appearance and property value while Second Street paving nears completion linking Buena Vista avenue to All Saints area.
The Shoe Re-Nu-Re shop at 975 B street has passed into the hands of L. R. Reim after buying his partner’s interest. Reim joins Company F and has sent staffers Max Richter and Manuel Quintal to maintain a high quality repair service. R. J. Reim is noted for crafting fine shoes and government work for disabled soldiers.
The Alameda County Poultry Breeders Association expands with Graham Hatchery and the Central Valley Hatchery added as accredited members. A permanent stock inspector is appointed to improve cooperation with hatcheries. Egg weight raised from 22 to 23 ounces per dozen, a shift that hurts members but benefits chick buyers. EL. Lemon and N. D. Fry are reelected president and secretary. Niles library project: a $20,000 library to be built with Heyer of San Francisco chosen as contractor. Groundbreaking ceremonies planned with 13 of 30 original trustees attending. Members of the Niles Chamber of Commerce invited to a luncheon by the California Potter Company. The plant’s new location will soon be operational. first product shipped this week. Sam Metzger eyes airplane manufacturing in Los Angeles.
Charles Albert Parker aged 79 years and two months died at his Castro Valley home on Wednesday August 3 after an illness. He was a native of Tainois and survived by wife Lillian Parker and children Grace Grosser Berty Parker and Harry D Parker. Funeral plans await relatives arrival and services will be at Pratt Mortuary. Mrs W D Noia of Alfendale Oakland and her daughter Beth Lucille visited relatives on Prospect Street.
The Castro Valley public school will open next Monday August 8 with principal A B Morris and staff ready to begin the year. About 240 pupils attended last year’s eight grades and just over 250 are expected for the fall enrollment. Teachers listed include Miss Lomise Maser Miss Patr icia Salimen Miss Estee Hunter Miss Mar Yelterle and Miss Doris Jess among others.
Mount Eden grammar school will reopen for the fall term on August 15. The school adds a fourth teacher and an extra classroom, with seats installed this summer in preparation for pupils’ early fall return. The staff includes Mr Eden Steak, Margaret White, and three returning teachers Overacker, Grace C Good, and Ruth N Gansberger.
Castro Valley residents approved a 25000 bond for a new addition to the Castro Valley school on the Castro Valley cut-off. Voting turnout grew through the day and final tally showed strong support. Trustees J. T Stanton and others anticipate completion by January 1, 1928, with new heating, cafeteria, dental clinic, restrooms, clock system, and a manual training structure already planned.
Castro Valley residents report W Horneman and daughter Marian convalescing after an attack. Local guests include Mr and Mrs Henry Hook of Yuba City, with early August social visits among Clara and Gertrude Sutherland, Orin Crowe and others.
