In a Tuesday city election voters rejected the 100000 bond proposal for a new city hall, losing by about 200 votes after a closer November showing. Manter and Rogers won trustee seats amid a noisy campaign, while local health and vaccination topics featured in a separate report from the Alameda County area.
Mrs Ruth L Rogers thanks the voters of Hayward for their support at the city election. She expresses gratitude to the press and helpers for their time and effort and pledges to serve Hayward to the best of her ability.

Officer F E Macabee on a motorcycle was injured when his machine collided with an automobile driven by Oscar Johnson, 25, a cannery worker from Western Boulevard. Johnson admitted fault after cutting the corner at R and Mumm streets. The motorcycle suffered about 59 dollars in damage.
Fred Marek, horticultural inspector, urges residents and farmers to destroy muk and milk thistles now. He says the noxious weeds are spreading across South Junior Alameda County and will seed widely if unchecked. Owners should cut the stalks two inches underground so plants bleed to death, preventing further trouble this season. Milk thistle is marked by large broad leaves and fine veining and is widespread in Hayward, harming truck gardens and flower beds.
Arthur L. Mant er expresses sincere appreciation to Hayward residents for support in the town election. He pledges to serve as trustee with unity and a widening vision, aiming for cooperative development and best interests of Hayward.
About thirty five members of the Hayward Gun Club plan to participate in the annual Chronicle shoot at the Golden Gate Gun Club grounds in Alameda next Sunday morning. Carl Sorenson, secretary of the Hayward club, says the group will leave Hayward by motor at 6 a.m. for Alameda.
The Lions club today endorsed forming a mosquito abatement district. Petitions to create it are circulating at Meininger's and the Auto Stage Cigar store, with about 230 signatures needed this season. People can sign at either location.
Farm Bureau experts will demonstrate thinning fruit at the A J Garm farm on Niley road beyond the cemetery on Monday April 18 at 10 a m. Orchardists are urged to attend and learn how thinning improves fruit quality and can boost crop profits.
A. W. Beam was named general chairman of a committee to work with Castro Valley residents to reopen Redwood Road. The panel includes James Willison, Jacob Harder Jr., Carl Sorenson, William Knightly, and Dave Roberts. A second chamber committee will push Western Boulevard opening with Jesse Holty and Sid Jones.
Miss Mildred Barbara Jensen and Mills Quist Jr were engaged. The announcement was made at a party hosted by Miss Agnes Neilsen and Miss Ruth Murchie at the Neilsen home in Russell City this week. The date of the wedding is not set.
Contract for a large Alameda county garage was let to Dohner & Galbraith. The concrete structure with brick frontage will cover 108 by 121 feet at Watkins and A street, near Castro, costing about 30000 to 25000 dollars and built by James Willison. Project aims for completion within three months.
Rudolph Herger of Cherry Avenue Hayward paid a $50 reckless driving fine by mail to the Hayward Justice's Court yesterday. He was arrested last week by state traffic officer Tony Rose after speeding through Dublin Canyon, colliding with another car and failing to stop leaving one injured. Herger pleaded guilty.
