Chamber of Commerce Holds Exciting Session

The Chamber of Commerce met last Monday night in a lively session. Members urged support for street improvements and waterworks plans while nonmembers drew criticism from the floor. Leaders announced a future joint meeting with the St. Louis Chamber and the Ladies Civic League and planned a guest Baer to speak. Ruth Snider returned to Truman, Arkansas.

Marriage Licenses Issued Week Ending March 22 1921

The list shows couples from Bragg City Fayti Caruthersville and Hayti among others receiving licenses including Edward Stevenson to Gee Poner and Harry Books to Ethel Bird plus John Glasco to Alice Williams and Alfred Lee to Mary Blythe. Names include Caruthersville Deering Luxora Netherlands and Luxora born James Farrow to Mary Cook.

County Court Schedules Bond Sale and Court Action

County court has met days this week. Bonds for the new court house are to be advertised for sale and the contract let as soon as possible after registration in the county and at Jefferson City. A suit in the U S District Court at Cape Girardeau seeks to restrain further bond disposal. hearing set for April 7 at Cape Girardeau.

Superintendent Praises Cooter High School Inspections

The State Superintendent Sam A. Barker informs the Cooter Board of Education on March 11, 1921 that the high school meets third class standards with eight instructional units. He recommends finishing the new building, securing permanent records and library cataloging, and keeping the library and equipment secured when not in session, hoping for occupancy next September.

March Term Opens With Large Civil and Criminal Docket

Circuit Court convened March 21 with an unusually large docket through April 28, 1921. Sheriff Robertson, with Deputies Johnson Day Wilson, supervise a long list of parole and larceny cases. several defendants discharged to citizenship after good conduct, others pled guilty with fines or sentenc es. numerous cases continued to next term.

Rebecca's Triumph staged by Hayti ladies at high school

Hayti Highlight: First Baptist Church Ladies Aid presented Rebecca's Triumph at the high school auditorium with Mrs. Sam Nethery as Rebecca and a strong ensemble including Miss Pearl Cameron and Miss Alice Cameron. The show featured a between acts number and a later song by Lamar Thompson, raising funds for the church building.

Pemiscot County issues bonds totaling 150000 for a new court house. Bonds printed received by County Court and to be advertised for sale and registered in Jefferson City. Suit filed in Cape Girardeau federal court to restrain disposal of bonds, hearing set for April. bond proceedings may be delayed.
