A Cuervo, New Mexico correspondent writes of rapid settlement in the country, with crops improving and schools and churches organized. He notes dry winter, high living costs, scarce money for labor, and that newcomers must endure initial hardship before building, fencing, and farming.
The women of Hayti organize the Women's Civic League a business group not linked to any church or society and without voting rights for men. The constitution envisions beautifying the town promoting morality enforcing law and order with Roberts Rules of Order. Officers are president vice-president recording secretary and treasurer serving one month terms. the executive committee requires three members for quorum. Frank Dudley signs off promising more later.
Hayti citizens and business owners raise funds for grading and fencing the public square with George Dorris tasked to solicit donations. The effort aims to attract quality residents, with a pledge to publish a donor list. Notices also call for farm workers and outline duties of the league's recording secretary and treasurer.
