Last Tuesday night at the north door of city hall the Hayti school board, with three witnesses including Drs. J. W. Johnson and F. A. Mayes and Win. York, burned 6325 cancelled bonds to wipe out district indebtedness. They also issued 1439.74 refunding bonds for one year and used 250 from incidental funds.
The new concrete sidewalk ordinance and several other ordinances are expected to be published next week. The new board is praised for its work and assurances are given that all new and important ordinances will be published to keep the public informed.
Mr and Mrs Roy Lee announce the birth of a son born Thursday morning attended by Dr M H Hudgins of Caruthersville. He is named Robert Enoch known as Robert E. Several locals were summoned to Kennett Wednesday for a court session in one of the Oates cases. details are unclear.
Mrs. D. J. Heard and her children from Cape Girardeau are visiting friends and relatives in Hayti this week, spreading word of their stay and reconnecting with local acquaintances.
State Factory Inspector W W Williams issues circular to county school superintendents highlighting age certificate requirements under the 1911 Session Acts. No child under fourteen may be employed except restricted cases, and those over fourteen to sixteen must hold an age certificate from local authorities. Williams aims to enforce the law and can compel issuance and prosecution for violations.
The Fred Morgan building at the northeast and the John Dorris building at the northwest corner of the square have finished brick work this week. Woodwork is to be rushed to completion. The two structures will greatly enhance the town’s beauty.
Mesdames Sallie McFarland and Letitia Popham with Ruth Morgan and children report health improvement after visiting Dawson Springs Ky. J D Good and wife depart Monday to Kennett Campbell and Rector for planned return to open a first class restaurant. J P Barksdale, brother of RN Barksdale, died last Friday and was buried at Little Prairie cemetery Saturday. Mrs J E Morris was ill last week.
A science note describes infant rapid growth with specific inch gains to age twenty five, then gradual declines into old age. Henry Evans, deputy sheriff, and Lee Curtner from Eldridge Tenn, led a pursuit for Rube Wells and Will Wilson accused in a Wells murder. They tracked them near Cowee's mill but the fugitives eluded capture with a quick getaway.
B S Stearns and companions fished at Clayfoot with Stearns catching the most. The editor and family are thanked for the meal. The paper was delayed due to printer court duties at Kennett amid a busy work week. Guy Sanders traveled to Jackson with his wife and daughter, Arthur White of Braggadocia visited Hayti.
The Globe-Democrat sent Sam B. Cook a 4100,000 settlement after a circuit court jury awarded 8150,000 for damages. The Missouri Supreme Court reduced the award to 850,000 with Cook’s consent, and the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the case. Cook keeps 841,000 after paying his knivers 825,000.
Atlee Jackson and Henry Ransburgh visited Timo Thebes and Ilimo last week to inspect electric light plants. They returned Thursday morning and were impressed by the oil engine at Ilimo for its steady operation strong lights and good power, but found the gasoline engine at Thebes lacking.
A. F. McCorkle of Campbell, grandfather of Rev. I Q Mc Corkle, died last Wednesday. His remains were taken to Rev. Mc Corkle's home, then to Newbern Tennessee, and buried in the Mc Corkle cemetery. Ferguson Mill residents plan their own school this year with building supplied by locals and the district providing the teacher for smaller pupils.
A fine boy was born Thursday morning to Mr and Mrs J S Sturm with Dr F A Mayes in attendance.
C S York left Ruthersville on Tuesday.
A teacher aims to show China's population with a grim joke about two Chinamen dying per breath. A pupil acts out by puffing hard, claiming he is "killing Chinamen" to rid the earth of foreigners as fast as he can.
Since Friday afternoon three good rains have fallen in time to aid crops. Dry weather limited planting, with cotton acreage unchanged and likely reduced by drought. Now too late for cotton but ample time for corn, promising a plentiful harvest as the corn acreage will rise.
