City council approves street light contract and passes multiple ordinances

An adjourned meeting of the Hayti aldermen authorized Hayti Light Co to oversee street lights at 25 cents more per unit. They read and advanced several ordinances including sidewalk building, street name changes, pool hall regulation and gambling inspection. Other actions included bonds, tax book transfers, and dog tax enforcement.

Revival Services Close at Baptist Church in City

During the revival led by Rev. Albert Sitton of St. Louis, church groups and businesses including Bank of Hayti, Spot Cash Grocery, East Ark Lumber Co, The Wolf Store and Dorris family have closed daily from 2:30 to 3:30 PM for services at each church on alternating days this week, showing strong local interest.

Police Court Working Overtime in Local Proceedings

Last week in the police court several arrests were noted. W OC Riles, charged with drunkenness and disorderly conduct, had the case continued to the 9th on own recognizance. Robt Jones was fined $2 for drunkenness, with a one year stay out of state in lieu of fine. Delia Lasley, accused of running a bawdy house, was found guilty after a jury trial and sentenced to $10 and 30 days in jail with bond possible for appeal. Bess Heflin and Lucille Carey faced similar charges, with trials continued to the 18th.
