Boiler blister at Hayti light plant prompts patchwork
Saturday night a large boiler at the Hayti light plant showed a six inch blister on its underside. The manager says the boiler is rated for 95 pounds though the plant carries 90, and the boiler has been out of cleaning for months. Workmen from Kennett repaired the blister after it was noticed, with the plant kept running until morning. The manager claims monthly cleanings were done and that current capacity may be insufficient for the city’s needs. He also cites delays in Caruthersville line construction due to a telephone line and pending public service commission decision, with material ready for completion.
