Von Mayer of Hayti A Missouri General Assembly Sketch

Senator Von Mayer Democrat from the Twenty third District is profiled. Born October 21 1876 in Union City Tennessee he trained in Malden Missouri Union City Tennessee and Searcy Arkansas Military College. A lawyer admitted in 1899 he served Pemiscot County as representative in 1914 and state senator in 1916. He chaired the Railroads and Internal Improvements Committee in the Forty ninth General Assembly and sat on Judiciary Ways and Means Life Fraternal and Other Insurance and Workmen’s Compensation and Criminal Jurisprudence committees. The piece calls him a tireless public servant and predicts continued influence in the Fiftieth General Assembly.

Pemiscot Youths Wounded In War Casualties List

The Caruthersville area town papers report two Pemiscot County youths wounded. Chester Watts of Hayti and Charles B. Herndon of Caruthersville were severely injured. Herndon lost his leg below the knee after a bursting shell. Watts lost most of his foot to a machine gun shell. Both will be cripples for life. Mrs. Nannie Pullem of Washington was informed that her son, Private Frankie Lee Pullen, was wounded September 30 with undetermined injuries. more information will follow.
