Black Seeks $18.5 Million Road Appropriation Plan
State Highway Commissioner Black pressed for an $18.5 million road appropriation this year while pledging the department will continue work or build roads if contractors fail to come to the mark. He cited $3 million yearly from auto licenses and $6 million for the appropriation period, saying maintenance costs around $300 per mile for 10,000 state highway miles, and outlined how funds would be allocated including new highway work and county partnerships. He warned bids may need adjustments and urged reasonable offers, noting a 7 percent overhead and potential tax changes could affect revenue.
