America calls all men aged 21 to 81 to register today from 7 to 9 pm for the new selective army. White or black, married or single, alien or native born, enemy subjects of the Kaiser must sign up unless already in military service. Exemption rules to be determined later. General cloudy conditions with chances of rain showers midweek. Temperatures show little change, winds shift to the south. Susquehanna and tributaries expected to fall slowly, Harrisburg area 5.3 feet by Wednesday morning. Global conditions reflect a broad barometer drop and a weather system moving from the Rockies to the Lakes region, with a 2 to 10 degree eastern temperature gradient.

Soldiers arrived and, under orders, fired high to avoid fatalities, gradually regaining control as fires were brought under control by noon.
New York June 5 Ten billion dollars to be spent in the coming year by the United States and allied governments for American farm, mine and factory products will bring the country its greatest prosperity. McAdoo says business optimism will rise beyond any past period and that only a refusal to support taxation or buy government bonds could stop it.
Rio de Janeiro reports Deputies authorize a message of congratulations to the U S Congress on the arrival of an American squadron and debate a commemorative commission. In Washington the dispatch signals steps to relieve British and French cruisers in Western Hemisphere waters. no further details released.
Vienna reports an official Italian loss tally of 180000 during the tenth Isonzo battle. The 19 day engagement involved about 35 Italian divisions along a 40 kilometer front. Austria claims 16000 prisoners and declares indisputable success on the front near Jamiano and Cane Mount Kuk.

Allentown June 5 President H A Weller of Philadelphia presiding opened the Lutheran Ministerium of Pennsylvania and adjacent states 170th annual convention in St John s Church The president warned of a alarming decline in student enrollment at colleges and other institutions of learning from which the church must recruit ministers.
Governor visits numerous registration sites across the county as citizens respond to the president’s call. Dauphin shows strong loyalty as locals hurry to enlist, seeking to support national effort and ensure readiness for wartime service.
Dauphin County Public Safety Committee issues an urgent call for clerical volunteers to complete registration returns. Men and women are sought Thursday Friday and Saturday to prevent delays and avoid dishonor. Dozens of patriots are urged to help with the service.
