District technicians urge planting legume cover crops this season across all cropland in the Siespie County Soil Conservation District. Hubam Madrid clover suit clay soils, while vetch and peas fit sandy soils. Seeding rates and inoculants are detailed, with terraces and dams planned for local landowners and field tours already held.

Harper residents report weekend travels and family visits across Llano Pecos San Antonio and Austin. W R Massey and family visited daughter Herman Otto in Llano. Whitewood and Bode relatives spent time with parents in Harper. Several families attended Delta Kappa Gamma events in Menard and visited kin in San Antonio and Austin.
Governor Allan Shivers proclaimed Beef Week in Texas for October 30 to November 3 this year. The proclamation was given to Texas Beef Council officials Leo Welder and J D Sartwelle. The event marks the council’s first anniversary of its eat more beef campaign begun in 1954. A survey showed beef retailer sales up 17 percent since last year’s campaign.
The governor's proclamation highlights Texas cattlemen a key force in state growth. Over 200 communities will host events including a Beef Supper in Fort Worth on October 31 with Senator Price Daniel as principal speaker. Two million recipe folders will be distributed through retailers.
The Gillespie County Game and Fish Protective Association will meet at 7:30 P.M. Friday at the Gillespie County Court House to hear district supervisor for the State Game and Fish Commission John Woods of Brownwood speak and view two films Animals in the Spring and Animals in the Summer. President Gilbert Kaderll says the association will no longer accept subscriptions to the state magazine. all renewals or new subscriptions should go to the magazine directly.
