Richard S. Miller recounts the Gillespie County pecan drive begun in 1921 to boost yield and quality. Budding and grafting improved varieties were taught via 1922–1923 demonstrations and schools, with 23 communities joining a county wide effort to educate farmers and expand bearing trees.
