Texans Vote On Five Proposed State Amendments

Texans will decide five constitutional amendments in the November 3 general election. The proposals include funding a John Tarleton College building, allowing state offices to draw salaries for military personnel in higher education institutions, requiring comptroller certification of appropriations, enabling new courts in certain cities, and permitting up to 2 million dollars of permanent school funds to finance an Austin state office building.

Wool market reports in West Texas fall sales

The Sonora Wool & Mohair Co sold 275000 pounds of 12 months wool to Guy Burton at 40 to 50 cents a pound, mostly 45 to 48. another car sold at 46 12 cents. West Texas warehouses report 35 to 45 cents with scattered buys. Del Rio and Sanderson clips mostly contracted. Labor shortages hinder shearing of the new clip.

Mission Council names Decker American secretary

The International Missionary Council elects Rev John W Decker as American secretary succeeding Rev A L Warnshuis. Decker, ex naval chaplain and former Baptist missionary in China, will start Jan 1 1943 after a London ceremony that formed the British Council of Churches linking major Protestant bodies. The council unites three interdenominational groups.

Missionary Doctor Hollenbeck Remembered for Angola Service

The obituary honors Henry Stanley Hollenbeck M D a long time missionary in Angola Portuguese West Africa for thirty three years of Christian service. He led Elende Mission Hospital trained hundreds of native nurses and taught sanitation and medicine. A Sheldon Iowa native he studied at Iowa State Northwestern University and London School of Tropical Medicine before sailing to Africa. The Methodist Church gifted its Chalmers Fund annual award to the Rev and others in recognition of his rural church work.
