Farmers urged to continue use of chlorinated hydrocarbons

Texas Agricultural Experiment Station research shows boll weevils developing resistance to chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides such as dieldrin endrin and toxaphene in parts of Texas. Field reports from the Brazos River Valley near Hearne note failures in 1956, while calcium arsenate and phosphorus compounds controlled weevils with safety caveats. Entomologists advise continuing chlorinated hydrocarbons pending further proof of resistance.
