In the Browns ville Herald commentary a Texas reader questions wartime gasoline rationing. The piece argues rationing may not win public support, suggests tires save logic is flawed, and favors delaying broad rationing until further study. It implies government should claim tires if needed, or let drivers wear them out otherwise.
Sen. O Daniel (D Tex) condemned extending gas rationing to Texas calling it absurd and warned against Washington bureaucrats. He noted ample scrap rubber stockpiles to keep civilians driving until synthetic rubber arrives and praised Texans for wartime sacrifices. He cited Adm. Nimitz from Texas as a point of state pride.
Local residents report visits among Klein and Sterling families in Fredericksburg and White Oak. Deer hunting is scarce with only one eight point buck and one turkey credited to Alfons Stehling. Other notes mention travel to Dallas for a baby’s medical consult and county shoppers in Fredericksburg.
The American Bible Society shipped 400 Bibles, 700 New Testaments, 1,500 Psalms, and 3,500 Gospels and Acts via the Cape of Good Hope for U.S. war prisoners in Japan, with 400,000 more scriptures sent to prisoners and refugees in Europe and beyond. Missionaries in West China continue translating classics into Chinese with church and Protestant bodies cooperating in a three hour morning ashram silence.

Miss Inez M. Cavert of the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America advocates adapting church use to aid children of working mothers in wartime defense towns. She proposes four services beyond religious education: foster homes, nursery care, recreation and supervision for school children, and health clinics, using churches' space where social services are scarce.
