After fifty six years of consideration, the General Conference grants Methodist women full clergy rights. They may be admitted to annual conferences, potentially becoming bishops, with over 4000 memorials backing the change.
On May 17 churches and the National Baptist Convention of the U S A held a day of prayer for improved race relations. NCC president Dr Eugene Carter Blake urged national humility and forgiveness to heal racial conflict and bitterness and called Christians to be instruments of divine love amid a restless world.
Methodists in South Africa mark a six month celebration to commemorate the church's 150th anniversary. The observance will culminate at the annual Methodist Conference.
The pecan nut casebearer is widespread in Texas and across the Pecan Belt, with damage varying by crop size. It overwinters as a larva in a cocoon, becomes active in spring, and damages nuts mainly via the first generation in May and early June. Multiple generations occur, with later generations affecting surfaces and leaves little damage. DDT, parathion, nicotine sulfate, and lead arsenate are listed as control options with notes on timing and safety. Two applications may be needed if infestation is heavy.
The St James Lutheran Missionary Society met May 16 at 2 pm in the parish hall with 19 members. Activities included a Federation anniversary program themed Thanks be to God a replica seal, a playlet on eight supported departments a Bible study on Corinthians and reports from India Mission Work and Castell group now named Hill Country Group.
Cape Town will host an October celebration themed The Courage and Determination of Ann Shaw. The event honors Mrs Shaw, wife of Methodist pioneer William Shaw, credited with inspiring perseverance amid hostility from tribes as Methodists in South Africa number 802000 with 477 clergymen serving.
Mrs Dillard Stapp hosted all her children at home for Mothers Day with kin from Plainview San Saba Junction and Fredericksburg. The Whetstones visited Harper and the Whetstones while local families hosted guests from Kerrville San Antonio and Fredericksburg. A rattlesnake incident near the Stapps occurred while watering the lawn but caused no injury.
The Post Office Department releases a three cent Wildlife Conservation stamp featuring a wild turkey. Available at Junction and other post offices. District Board urges locals to use three cent stamps on outgoing mail and send a showing of district interest with stamped letters. Also reports on buffelgrass planting, pecan spraying, and pasture recovery aided by rain and ferments.
Texas wildlife officials report fifteen years of restocking with roughly 15000 white tailed deer released with generally successful results. Mule deer faced more failures and east Texas plants show no complete success though Palo Duro and north Texas populations grow. Rio Grande turkeys spread statewide but east of Austin often fail with one Freestone County project expanding under hunting pressure.
Farmers may file Form 2240 after June 30 to reclaim the 2 cent per gallon federal excise tax for gasoline used in farming during the first half of 1956. Refunds cover gasoline used on farms in the United States for farming, with eligibility extending to custom operators and neighbors aiding cultivation.
A series of notices from St. Anthony's and Riverside Methodist churches invites attendance for May 27 services and summer plans. St. Anthony's lists masses at 8:30 and 10 with summer time preferences. First Friday and Saturday services follow. Methodist Church notes building progress, conference reports, and plans for Lord's Supper on June 3.

Mr L H Harper and Mrs Harper traveled to San Antonio for a brief trip last week seeking leisure and local sights. They were accompanied by no listed companions or official duties during the visit.
