The Voluntary Home Mortgage Credit Program has improved access to FHA and VA loans for rural and outlying-area builders. Since March 1955 WHMC arranged 16 500 loans totaling 141 600 000 expanding financing and prompting lenders to focus on remote areas. The program links borrowers and lenders and reduces VA direct loan needs by aiding veterans to secure private channel loans. Representatives of the retail lumber industry serve on the 16 regional committees.
Gillespie County Peach Growers Association at Stonewall prepares to harvest its peach crop and reopen the packing shed. A small amount of Dixie Reds is ripe but insufficient to start packing. if moisture allows maturation packing may begin around June 15 and a large crop is possible if weather cooperates. Captain N R Smith announces Texas Highway Patrol expects to fill 200 vacancies by June 10 at 1414 North Brazos Street San Antonio. Qualifications include age 21 to 35 high school education height and fitness. Rookie pay during training and benefits include two weeks vacation sick leave retirement and Social Security. A daughter Rebecca Lois born May 20 in Dallas to Mr and Mrs Robert R Webb. Rebecca is the 32nd grandchild of Mr and Mrs Theo Oehler.
Harper's Churches extend a cordial welcome inviting all to attend. For Sunday June 3 Mass is at 9 30. Summer mass times will be 7 30 and 9 on two mass Sundays or 9 on single mass Sundays as voted. Observances include Corpus Christi and Sacred Heart. Walk in any service anytime.
St James Lutheran Church invites attendance with Bible class at 9 30 a m and Divine Worship at 10 30 a m on First Trinity Sunday June 3. A church council meeting is scheduled for June 4 at 8 p m. Pastor Dr W J Goerner provides the message and cordial invitation.

Special services at the Presbyterian Church honored five young graduates: Peggy Hopf Kerrville Davene Schmidt Fredericksburg Joe Parker Eugene Parker and Wilmar Klahn Harper. A basket lunch followed on the church lawn as relatives visited from Shreveport La Harlingen and Fredericksburg.

Visitors at the Sam Barker home on Sunday included Roscoe Parker and Lon Parker of Round Mountain, DuBois Parker and family of San Antonio, Clayton Massey and son of Boerne, Vera Parker of Kerrville, Walter Parker family Joe and Kelly Parker, and Lulla Roberts. T. J. Oehler returned Saturday from San Antonio after attending a Methodist Church annual conference as a delegate.
