World church leaders meet in Buck Hill Falls

Top ranking churchmen from fourteen nations met at Buck Hill Falls Pa to plan for a world evangelical authority and the first World Council of Churches assembly in Holland in August 1948. American participants included Taft Mott Oxnam Cavert Mackay and others. The session reviewed relief needs for Europe and Asia and how to increase national church bodies in the World Council, now 91 member bodies from 32 nations. Michigan Methodism marked the 100th anniversary of Judson Dwight Collins arrival in China as founder of Methodist missions there, with events in Unadgilla near Ann Arbor and a main address by Adrian College president Harrison.

Religious work urged for Europe's youth by Dr Cockburn

Dr J Hutchinson Cockburn of Edinburgh urged Buck Hill Farms leaders to intensify postwar religious outreach among European youth. He warned Communists are more eager than Christians and urged revival through church work and the Holy Spirit to curb communist influence across Europe. Rev Dr James Oscar Lee of Richmond, first Black theology PhD from Union Theological Seminary, elected executive secretary of Race Relations at the Federal Council of Churches, replacing Dr George E Haynes. He has served on the department staff and previously held posts at Connecticut Council of Churches and Virginia Union University.

Mexican President Aleman Visits Washington in Historic Stepping Stone

History was made as Mexican President Aleman became the first Mexican chief executive to visit Washington crossing the Rio Grande. He was welcomed by President Truman, rode in a massive parade, and addressed Congress in Spanish. The La Junta and Dandelion Clubs hosted a Tea at Hotel Las Lomas Junction honoring the Cactus Club.
