Herman J. Kaiser prominent Harper figure dies after long illness on April 24. Funeral held at St. Anthony's Church in Harper. He was 58 years old and survived by five children. Gillespie County mourns as Harry T. Klein 33rd World War dead dies from combat wounds in Germany. He served as a cook in a coast artillery anti aircraft unit after enlisting in 1942. Survived by wife Rita Roeder two sons parents-in-law and many siblings. Memorial services planned at St. Mary’s Fredericksburg.

Hail Damages Stone Wall Peach Crops
A severe hail storm crossed a four mile wide path near Stonewall Wednesday night destroying peach crops including Simon Burgs orchard. Nearby areas reports hail in Harper and Wool Creek sections with several miles south of Harper also affected. Local residents visited by families through the weekend include the Rogers and Lange households and others. several travelers from Temple Seattle Kerrville and Bandera were noted visiting or passing through.

Last Sunday night at 6:30 the youths of St. Anthony's parish gathered on church grounds to honor James Reed their Secre tary. A soft ball game was played, a wiener roast followed, outside games were played, then music and singing. James Reed was recorded singing I changed my Pillow for a Pup Tent before departing Monday morning for Fort Sam Houston to be inducted into the U S Army.

Lions Barbecue Raises Funds For FFA Tool Shed
A large crowd attended the IK FFA rodeo and PTA barbecue at Stewart's Grove last Saturday. Receipts total about 400 dollars with 280 from the rodeo and dance and 120 from the barbecue. Proceeds benefit a tool shed behind the Harper school building to house FFA equipment.

Clothing Drive in Gillespie County Nets 6000 to 7000 Lbs
Gillespie County reports a United National Clothing Drive total between six and seven thousand pounds. Lions Club volunteers at the Agricultural Building sorted about 4,000 pounds, with 2,000 to 3,000 more awaiting processing. Harper contributed around 200 pounds as churches statewide joined the effort.

Parents of Sgt Tommie Jung Learn War Dept Encouragement
Mr and Mrs Edwin Jung received an encouraging War Dept letter about their son Sgt Thomas Jung MIA since February 25 over Germany. The letter notes the plane crashed in neutral territory and three crewmen jumped with Jung among them, with parachutes seen, suggesting he may be prisoner or at large on the continent. Relatives join in prayer for his safe return.
