Metal plates honor buyers of Gillespie County Fair shares

The Gillespie County Fair Association announces metal plates will be attached to stalls and arena seats for buyers of shares in the new stock barn at Gillespie County Fair Grounds. Shares start at 25 dollars with 2000 shares planned, aims to fund a modern livestock building and bronze plaque dedication to pioneering farmers. Solicits begin March 1 with reports due March 4 and March 8, to enable completion for the August 18 19 20 fair in 1950.

Edd Pehl of Red Rock visited daughter Mrs Marvin Kramer. Allen Fowler and sons of San Antonio visited his parents Mr and Mrs Fred Gammenthaler. State taxes effective March 1 1950 apply to cigarettes whiskey beer radios automobiles cosmetics and 14 other items to fund hospital and eleemosynary programs Governor Allan Shivers signed two bills creating 90 million in temporary levies Omnibus tax rise and penny per pack cigarette hike raise 30 and 60 million respectively The tax laws began March to end a 30 day special session and funds include hospital operation schools cancer research and eleemosynary buildings
