Lieutenant Baumann, forward observer with the 4th division 29th Infantry, earned the Purple Heart for leg injuries while in Vietnam. He has served six months in Vietnam and expects to return home in August. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Hugo Baumann of Marble Falls and grandson of Mrs Ethel Rech and Mrs Henry Baumann of Fredericksburg.
Vernell Solbrig and William Ochhs Walker Jr were married Saturday March 2 at 2 30 p m in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church. Rev Leroy Deans officiated the double ring ceremony with music by Elaine Mazinke. The couple will reside in San Antonio where he attends Trinity University.
Mr and Mrs Francis J Fritz of Harper announce the engagement of their daughter Barbara Elaine to Roger D Roeder son of Mr and Mrs Ruben Roeder of Harper They are Harper High School graduates and plan an April 26 wedding at St Anthony s Catholic Church Harper
Aunt Thresa Geistweidt born March 2, 1868 in Mason marked her 101st birthday. Married to John Geistweidt in 1891, widowed 1938, she has lived with daughters and relatives, with children Arnold Rode, C C Pluenneke, Ervin and Arthur Geistweidt among those aiding the celebration.
Mrs. Danny Meyer of Fredericksburg was honored at a pink and blue shower hosted by Mrs. Garland Black and Mrs. Douglas Bode. The Dougals Bode home featured pastel pink and blue decor, a lemonade chiffon cake, pink sherbet punch, and a cradle motif on the gift table. Attending guests included Mrs. weidt and Ernest Geistweidt of Mason and other close friends and relatives.
The friendly sewing circle met Wednesday February 26 at Mrs Alfred Kramers home with six members. They finished the club quilt. Mrs Lee Schmidt hosted and served sandwiches cake rolls chips coffee and punch. The next meeting will be March 26 at the Kramer home with Mrs Antone Lange as hostess.
The Harper 4-H Club meets Monday March 10 at Harper Community Hall. The Horse Club convenes at 6 30 pm and the regular 4 H meeting at 7 30 pm. Doss and Pilot Knob 4 H'rs invited to the Horse Club session.
Major Norman E. Sullivan, son of Floyd P Sullivan of Wayne Nebraska, receives his second Air Force Commendation Medal at Randolph Air Force Base Texas for meritorious service as a personnel staff officer at MPC. He is a 1948 Laurel High School graduate, Wayne State College alumnus, and University of Nebraska Omaha BS in business admin. His wife Lillian is daughter of Edwin Thang of Harper Texas. Colonel J Fielder presents.
Miss Mary Nell Tarr spent the weekend with her parents in Harper. Fred ericksburg visitors attended a supper honoring Edward Stein on his Fredericksburg National Bank retirement. Out of town guests hailed from Fredericksburg Ingram and San Antonio.
Eastern Hill Country RC&D Project Executive Committee met in Stonewall to discuss a project wide tourism development meeting with state agency input. A flood-prevention dam feasibility survey for Gillespie and Blanco counties is planned for April as a top priority.
Willard Richter biologist and former Nacogdoches resident arrives in Fredericksburg to assist Bob Gordon in the Eastern Hill Country RC&D project covering Blanco and Gillespie counties. A Texas A&M graduate, Richter will help landowners with wildlife management and recreation development. He will move to Fredericksburg in June with wife Johanna Sachers and three children.
Mrs. W. G. West of 2615 Waco Street died Tuesday at Shannon Hospital. Funeral services were at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in San Angelo with burial in Belvedere Cemetery. She was born August 19, 1880 in Wilson County and survived by two daughters, two sons, twenty four grandchildren, thirty nine great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Eugene Heinemann and Leo Heinemann from Uvalde spent the weekend in College Station on business and met A&M and SMU basketball figures. They traveled home via Austin to visit their sister Miss Ema Jane Heinemann. A square dancing event titled Share the Fun is planned for Friday night March 7 from 7 to 9:30 PM, with later arrivals welcome.
Harper residents react to the hit song while noting no Harper PTA ties to the fictional Harper Valley PTA. Local officials recall the town’s history with the Harper family name and Indian raids, and report the song boosted PTA funds at a October festival.
