Okinawa Victory Turn? U S Bases and Okinawa Status Debate
The piece argues for maintaining U S control of Okinawa noting 12 500 American deaths in 1945 and warning that return would strip the base of nuclear storage and B 52 operations while requiring Japan's veto over future U S military moves and altering defense costs. It cites treaties of 1952 and 1960 and contends a strong base is essential despite political pressures. It also mentions a Father’s Day gathering in Seguin and Fredericksburg with local attendees.
