The eight day Apollo 10 mission with astronauts Stafford Cernan and Young is hailed as a pinnacle of human achievement and a rehearsal for a manned moon landing. The Harper Lions Club met with first vice president Howard Sivels presiding in Leon Dunn's absence. New officers include Howard Sivels president John Honig first VP Clark Bierschwale second VP Rev William Bill Bill third VP Douglas Tatsch secretary Froy Bode treasurer Dallas Rieger Lion Tamer Alfred Spaeth Tail Twister Carl Oehler Harry Sultemeier and new directors. Installation is set for Tuesday June 17 at 7 pm at the Longhorn Inn. Connie Honig named Lions Club Queen for the year.
Lion R E Peril as chairman with W G Hill and Douglas Tatsch report enough local children wish to participate to warrant the program again this year. The club votes to sponsor beginners and advanced classes and uses Herbert Gamels pool at his hotel. Hill and Bode handle registrations and collect a $3 fee per participant. Anthony Knopp of Fredericksburg will supply a qualified instructor through the County Red Cross program. The project is planned to start about July 7 with the Little League baseball club involved.
Gary Rahe to supervise and coach the team as Lions Club sponsors return this year. Little Leaguers should contact Harry Sukemeter or Gary Rahe to join, plan the Harper Community Park field schedule, and start play. Lions delegates Howard Sivels and Clark Bierschwale attend the Lion District convention in Laredo June 5 6 7.

Hill Country Memorial Hospital trustees received bids May 29 for a new 50 bed facility. Blanchard Associates Fredericksburg offered 1,244,548 while W. D. Anderson Construction Austin bid 1,295,375. The chairman noted the low bid is 265,000 above the June 1966 architect estimate, increasing total project cost from 1.2 to 1.465 million.
Ninety nine Rogers family members met June 1 at Harper Community Park for the third reunion. Mary Whitworth led with thirty four members, distant guests arrived from Arlington Washington and Ojai California, and celebrate future planning for 1970. Hospital project costs rise to 1.465 million with bids under review and possible loan funding.
Dr. Leo F. Klein 67, a chiropractor known in the Hill Country and brother in law to Rev. A A Gitter of Harper, died Wednesday at 5 15 P M in Fredericksburg Hospital after a long illness. Born February 26 1902 in Two Rivers Wisconsin he married Gertrude Gitter August 24 1920 in Harper. Funeral set for Friday at 2 P M at St Marys Church Fredericksburg with burial in St Marys Cemetery.

Large crowd and dignitaries attend the LBJ State Historical Park near Stonewall and Hye as visitors tour the Visitors Center and Behrends log cabin. A formal opening is planned for June or July 1970 when remaining park projects are finished.
Mr and Mrs Cody Marschall of San Angelo Mr and Mrs Victor Marschall and granddaughter Mar Celle and Mr and Mrs Chariie Rogers and daughter Jeanette attended the College of Engineering graduation Saturday. Civil engineering graduates with honors were recognized.
William Lee Lange and Judy Ann Burns wed in Conway Arkansas on April 12 1900 in a church ceremony. Attendants included Jane Burns Cogburn and Sandra Burns with Irving Texas guests and out of town relatives from Denver Fort Worth Dallas and Harper. The couple resides at 50 N Commonwealth Ave Apt 14A Fullerton California.
Walter Solbrig suffered a severe mishap while alighting from his tractor and became trapped overnight. Neighbor Mr. Shearer discovered him Monday morning and he was taken to Fredericksburg hospital for treatment.
Miss Karen Nadine Montezium and Mr Larry William Kramer wed at St James Catholic Church in Seguin Saturday night at 8 PM. Attendants included Mrs Alfred Kramer and other relatives from Seguin Kerrville and local families. Larry is the son of Mr and Mrs Pete Kramer and grandson of Mrs Alfred Kramer.
Mr and Mrs John Hoaig and daughters and Mr and Mrs Martin Rode and daughter attended Glenda Carters graduation at W B Ray High School Corpus Christi Thursday night. Glenda Carter is granddaughter of Sam Hoaig of Harper. The Hoaigs and Rodes planned a sightseeting trip but Mrs Johan Hoaig fell ill and they left for medical care.
The annual Vacation School will begin Monday June 9 at 8 am and run weekdays 8 to 11 30 with Mass at 11. Two San Antonio sisters will teach, aided by local lay instructors. Visual education and project work featured, with instruction and recreation on church grounds. Sponsored by Confraternity of Christian Doctrine of St Anthony's Church, the two week program continues on church grounds.
Mrs Henry Markwordt 74 of Harper nee Gertrude Inscore died Saturday May 31. Born January 4 1805 in Blanco Texas she married Henry Markwordt Kerrville May 7 1816. Survived by two daughters Amanda Strackbein and Lanora Whetstone 12 grandchildren six great grandchildren. Services were held May in Harper Baptist Church with Rev J N Coffman officiating. Interment in Harper Cemetery.
PFC Timothy A Baumann 20 son of Mr and Mrs Hugo Baumann Rt 2 Marble Falls completed Marine Corps recruit training in San Diego. He fired highest platoon score 232 of 250 with M 14 rifle among about 75 recruits and earned outstanding shooter certificate and Leatherneck Medal. His brother Jerry serves in Vietnam and he has a sister Charlottee. After 20 days leave he reported back and left June 2 for Vietnam.
Kathy Tatsch of Har per daughter of Mr and Mrs Bel ton Tatsch is among fifteen Schreiner Institute students on the second semester honor roll ending last month. She earned a 3.6 A average for college honors. Also on the honor roll from the area are Bernhard Lawrence Fritz Fredericksburg James Marcel Hanchey Ingram Melene Ivy Ingram and Nancy Patricia Hopkins Kerrville.
Miss Frances Floyd attended the May 31 commencement at the University of Texas for her nephew Frank Michael Floyd. He earned a Ph D in chemical engineering, son of C M Floyd of Baytown. He and his wife Elwanda Bourne of Arlington will move to Baytown where he will work for Esso.
Mrs Semmuel Jones of Phoenix Arizona and her daughter Mrs Scott Wing and son spent two weeks with their grandmother and mother Mrs OF We Parker in Lubbock Texas during a family visit time period.
