President Lyndon B. Johnson and Mrs Johnson visit Edison Street Methodist Church with daughter Lynda Bird and press corps. The church named Town Church of the Year at the Southwest Texas Conference, with Rev H Ellis Thomas presenting the award to James Bender. Reverend Clifford C Kodge earned a UT PhD hood during the service.
The Kimble County Wool and Mohair Show unfolds at Junction Public Schools on Friday with Wool and Mohair contestants, a Miss Wool and Miss Mohair pageant, and a style show. Judges’ selections will remain secret as winners represent the county in regional contests. events include contests, coffee hour, plant judging, and a Chinese auction to defray expenses.
The couple plans a Saturday afternoon wedding at St Mary's Catholic Church on June 27. Polly Ann Mueltemiuit is the daughter of Mrs Theo Moelletutart and the late Moellentort, while her fiancé is the son of Mr and Mrs Ernst Zenner. Both plan Fredericksburg High School graduation and future work in local firms.
Mr and Mrs Hans Wachhals celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary after Sunday Mass at St Anthony's Church. Rev A A Gitte officiated as they renewed their vows. attendees included Mr Robert Maurer and Mrs Nora Staudt. A luncheon followed in the parish hall with out of town guests from Kerrville Fredericksburg and New Braunfels.
Mrs. George Hartley and Mrs. Thomas Hartley hosted a May 30 open house at Royal Street in San Antonio for Kathy Sue Duderstadt of Harper, bride elect of Vernon Fritze Jr of San Antonio. The event preceded a Hometown Eagle Club party honoring A and M graduates including Mr. Fritze. The Kerrville wedding is set for June 13 at First Methodist Church with ministers Breihan and Hillard officiating.
Mrs David Schmidt hosted a personal gift tea Sunday afternoon honoring Kathy Sue Duderstadt from 3:00 to 3:00. Guests wore pink decor as the bride elect and her mother Mars. Douglas Duderstadt and Mrs Vernon Fritze hosted, with assistance from Virginia Fritze and Karen Dittmar. Attendees included Mary Ellen Walker, Warren Dittmar, Polly Marty, and Ruth Blackburn.
Harper Lions Club names 1964 Junior Rodeo committees led by Alfred Spaeth BE Roach and R E Peril. Parade set 3 to 4 PM, rodeo events 4 to 6 PM for ages 14 and under, with a 7:45 PM grand entry for ages 15 to 18. No entry fees, engraved cups for winners, and ribbons for top three in parades.
Harper Herald reports Elmer L. Lange sold Lange’s Auto Service to Werner Schumpelt effective June 1 1964. Schumpelt, a Kerrville auto mechanic, will run the shop with Humble products and offer auto repair, motor overhaul, and tractor work while joining Mooney Aircraft Kerrville.
Miss Martha Stevens daughter of Mr and Mrs H L Stevens of Harper and granddaughter of Mrs A Wendel graduated from Schreiner Institute Junior College May 25 with honours She ranked high in the 1904 class at Lehremer and was an honor student two years She is a graduate of Harper High School and a former Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls active in Harper Presbyterian Church planning to attend the University of Texas this fall.
Darl Anderegg and Eileen Hlopt lead a youth caravan from Harper to San Antonio and Albuquerque visiting churches and hospitals around Santa Fe and Taos. They are joined by local sponsors and will return after a multi day schedule including Presbyterian, Catholic, and church camp activities for youths and children.
