An international group of scholars could standardize English spelling across nations for consistency within countries and between British and American usage. Alfred Lehnes Have Great Success In A Day Of Fishing

Alfred Lehnes of Harper enjoyed a day of fishing at Moss Lake Oxford Texas on Friday May 19. He baited with a dead minnow and landed a 3 lb blue catfish then hooked a 13 lb blue catfish after switching to frozen shrimp. His wife Mrs Lehne helped land the big catch.

Johnsons Return to Washington After Memorial Day

President Lyndon B. Johnson and Mrs Johnson left the LBJ Ranch near Stonewall Texas after Memorial Day weekend. Private memorial services were held at the ranch for the President and First Lady, with aides and employees present. Clergy from three churches conducted the services and prayers for all who have died in the nation’s wars.

West Texas Sightseeing Trip With Frances Floyd Group

Miss Frances Floyd and Mrs Wendel toured West Texas on Tuesday visiting Harper Rock Springs Del Rio Comstock Amusted Dam and Uvalde College. They lunch in Villa Ma Crosby's Cafe Mexico and shopped sightseeing before returning to Harper through Bracketville Leakey and Garrrens Store. The day was warm and dry with a storm forming as they returned arriving at dark.

Hospital Building Fund Reaches 550 309

Hill Country Memorial Hospital reports the building fund has climbed to 550 309 as of a May 29 meeting. Allen Keller, chairman, calls for recognition of original contributors and a cut‑off date for the contributors book to be displayed in the lobby and library.

Sandra Spaeth Receives Materials Science Grant

Sandra Spaeth, daughter of Raymond Svaeth, has received a materials science grant to pursue graduate work at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. She has taught science in Renhaea Tainier Haigh in Odessa for three years and will take two geology courses with field trips to Carlsbad Caverns and the Mountains of New Mexico. The eight week classes run June 12 to August 4.

Roy F Steitle Rites Held Last Thursday

Roy F Steitle of 105 Longhorn St died at Fredericksburg Hospital after a heart attack on Thursday May 15 at 2 00 p m at age 48. Born March 15 1900 in Gillespie County he was married to Mildred Markworth Steitle served in World War III and worked for Stein Lumber Co. Survived by wife Mildred two sons Roy Steitle Jr and Robbie Steitle one daughter Lee Ann Steitle his parents Mr and Mrs Otto Steitle of Fredericksburg and in-laws Mr and Mrs Markworth of Harper. Funeral held at Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev G Wolf officiating. Burial at town cemetery with Louis Jordan Post AmVets and others in attendance.

Vietnam casualty buried in Kerrville May 13

Funeral services held for Sgt Anthony Kunz 21 of Kerrville who died in Vietnam. Burial was in Gardens of Memories with full military honors. Kunz served in the infantry and had been overseas about eight months. Survivors include wife Mary Clark Kunz and his parents, three brothers and a sister. He attended Notre Dame School and Kerr High School and worked with LORA before entering service.

Mrs Moore Dies at 91 in Kerrville Funeral Services

Mrs Arti mece Bierschwale Moore aged 91 of Kerrville died after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held at Plummer Fair Funeral Home with Pastor Leon Patterson officiating and burial in Harper Cemetery. Parade rolls Saturday at 3 PM along Main Street with the Harper Lions Club hosting Frontier Day Youth Rodeo events for age groups up to 18. Friends and relatives report Res Link Billings is in Fredericksburg Hospital and Clinic. Mr and Mrs Howard Walden of Corpus Christi visited with Mr and Mrs H L Stevens over the weekend. Mrs Fred Gamenthaler dined with Mr and Mrs Carl Durst and family at Doss. Vacation Bible School began Monday at St James Lutheran Church with strong attendance.

Wayne Behrens Honored At St James Luther an Reception

Wayne Behrens son of Mr and Mrs Orvin Behrens was honored at a Friday evening reception at St James Lutheran parish hall. The Imediate family and local friends attended along with Wayne’s grandparents and relatives from Kerrville Ingram Kerrville and Fredericksburg. The event featured a sewing table display with miniature figures of eight girls and ten boys representing the graduating class and candleholders with white candles. The cake was German chocolate iced in white and green the class colors. Wayne’s sister Vary served the cake.
