County Agent C A Stone warns Texans about chiggers or redbugs causing intense itching as they bite tight clothing areas. Control tips include dusts of chlordane or toxaphene, lindane or sulfur, or sprays with dieldrin chlordane lindane or toxaphene, and repellents containing DEET dimethyl phthalate or related chemicals. If untouched, scratching remains the recourse and hay harvest timing affects quality.

DAV leader plans Fredericksburg chapter for Gillespie veterans
National Service Officer H A Bardwell of the Disabled American Veterans will visit Fredericksburg to organize a DAV Chapter for Gillespie County disabled veterans. He will accompany Texas District Commander Comrade Rice and VA Chief Contact Officer Ross Vick. A meeting is set for Friday July 29 at the VFW Hall on Mason Road at 7 or 8 p.m. All disabled Gillespie County veterans are invited to attend.

James P. Kraus is appointed Gillespie County Chairman to lead U S Senator John Tower's re election drive. Kraus, a St Marys graduate, serves in local civic groups including Gillespie County Fair Association and Columbus Council. Tower, in his sixth year, sits on Armed Services and Banking and Currency committees and chairs the Military Construction Subcommittee.
