Local Visits Highlight Family Trips Across Harlingen Harper

Mrs. Clark Bierschwabe and children from Harlingen spent the first week visiting her parents. Mrs. Pete Whiteworth stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Buck Buckner and son Jack in Kerrville on their way to Harper to visit relatives Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Fisk from Kerrville visited Mrs. Selma Granville and her son Ellis Tuesday.

Miss Klein and Lehne Wed in St Marys double ring ceremony

Miss Mary Virginia Klein and Franklin Lehne married December 26 in St Marys Catholic Church. Father J J Hildebrand officiated at 3 pm with Frances Rischner Harper providing music. Bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Klein, wore lace and net over taffeta with pearl accents. groom, son of Mrs. Felix Lehne, had Navy service beginning November 8. The ceremony featured gladiola and poinsettia decor, a reception at Klein's Hall, and an out-of-town guest list from Harper, San Antonio, Kerrville and nearby towns.

Lions To Celebrate Charter Night January 18

Harper Lions Club plans Charter Night at the school on January 18 at 7 p m. The club will again sponsor the annual 4 H FFA Livestock show at the school barn on January 14. Fred Whitewood to solicit funds. FFA donates 20 to cover expenses and prizes. Tom Kirkham Lions International representative to be guest speaker.

Farm Bureau President To Attend Conference

Charles Klinksick of Grapetown, president of Gillespie County Farm Bureau, will attend the second annual state-wide county Farm Bureau presidents conference January 9-11 in Waco at the Roosevelt Hotel. The exclusive meeting will tackle organization structure, membership services, public relations, policy, training, and leadership, with county presidents forming subcommittees to guide future Texas Farm Bureau actions.

Harper 4H FFA Livestock Show Set For January 14

The Harper 4H and FFA Livestock Show, sponsored by the Lions Club, will be held Saturday at the Harper School show barn. Vernon Jones of Kimble County will judge all classes. Entries close by 2:30 p.m. after judging. Prizes include ribbons and 3.00 for first, 2.00 for second, 1.00 for third per class. Rosettes awarded for champion breeding animals and top fat lambs, swine, and more. Lions concession will sell sandwiches and drinks to support premium money and ribbons.

Three Presented Awards At Holiday Court Of Honor

At the Harper Boy Scout Troop Court of Honor Jimmie Peril and Malcolm Marshall earned the Star Badge while Hollis Walker received the First Class Badge. Rev. D. W. Brown presented the awards and spoke on scout achievements and community impact. The ceremony at the Harper Legion Hut drew nineteen scouts, parents, and visitors.

A meeting will be held at Harper school at 8 p m on Monday to form committees for the March of Dimes program scheduled for January 28. All interested are urged to attend and support the worthy cause.

Mrs W C Brown marked her 84th birthday on Thursday December 29 at her home. All her children and most grandchildren attended except son Clint Brown. The day also honored granddaughter Mrs W F Dees who attended the chicken dinner.

Fire saved at McGinley ranch goat and sheep barn

The Volunteer Fire Department responded Monday night to a fire at W. L. McGinley’s goat and sheep barn and saved the structure. The blaze was believed to have started from a cigarette. 600- Rev. and Mrs. Tom of Canada occupy the Casper home and Rev. Tom will preach at the Pentecostal Church through the week.

Mr. and Mrs. B H Whaley observed their golden anniversary with an open house and dance at their Harper area ranch on Tuesday December 27 attended by about 200 friends and relatives. The couple’s daughter Mrs Charles Peril and her husband hosted, with grandchildren Bill and Ann Peril present. A guest book was signed by Mrs Pat Rogers of Kerrville and Mrs L H Harper.

Golden wedding anniversary noted for Mr and Mrs Whaley
