Hereford bull Monty Domino, registered and shown, sold by owner Allen Gibson of Harper at the Mason Hereford Sale last Thursday to buyer Alfred.

Harper High School basketball lost 40 to 18 at Comfort gym against Medina in the last district game of the year. Comfort won the district with Bandera in second place. Gillespie County Farm Bureau hosts a county wide meeting with Texas Rural Roads Association Friday at 7 30 pm in the County Courthouse Fredericksburg. Executive Director Robert G Dillard will speak on rural road conditions and proposed changes. The event aims to advance a better rural roads program and plans to dedicate the natural resources tax for permanent improvements.
Funeral services for Mrs Abbie Maria Mosel were held Saturday February 18 at 2 30 pm at Harper Presbyterian Church with Rev A L Spellman and Rev Jack Minter assisting. Born May 27 1868 in Medow Alabama she married Wm Mosel December 24 1885. Surviving are three grandchildren Jerry Carroll Bonnie Sheppard and others. buried at Harper Cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Tom Carter have leased the former Cottle's Cafe in Harper and will operate as City Cafe. The Carters are known in the Harper area and will offer regular meals lunches short orders sandwiches hamburgers and steaks. The cafe was remodeled last year by Raymond Cottle and had been managed by Oren Cottle who returned to ranching.

The District Court opened its spring term with Judge Ferguson presiding. A grand jury of fifteen was sworn, with Chas. Dolezal named foreman. Several civil cases were dismissed or consolidated, including two related to a past automobile wreck near Stonewall. The State charged Clinton Weldon Porter with theft. he received a $50 fine and costs. Douglas Martin was sentenced to two years for forgery. Jury list for Feb. 28 was released, and Judge Verguson will hear Kerrville cases Monday.
Gillespie County Commissioner's Court session extended through last Wednesday. They approved January fee reports as the county shifts from fees to salaries, transferred 1000 dollars to the Officers Salary Fund, and approved sheriff travel of 2116 miles. Alfred Kelch named Public Weigher of Precinct 1 with a 2500 dollar bond. Election officials for multiple precincts were listed by name.
Robert and Thomas Pape of Tivydale, sons of Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Pape, set a new world record price of 3100.00 for their 109 lb Southdown grand champion fat lamb at the first annual San Antonio Livestock Exposition. The record surpasses last year’s 2500.00 paid for Roy Ressmann’s grand champion at Houston.
Three all time price records were set at the St Anthony's world livestock exposition in San Antonio as fat calves lambs and pigs sold for new highs. Highlights include Floy Woodard 950-pound Hereford grand champion steer at 8550, Mikoy Schneider Seguin 225-pound Duroc pig at 8 per pound and 2 000 total, and a Southdown lamb at 31 per pound for 3 379. A 100 winner McGimsey trophy will honor yearly champions for 100 years. Charity donations accompanied several sales including steer gifts to orphans and a Catholic orphanage.
Gill espie County breeders the Henkes dominated Ma son show with reserve champion bull GH Proud Mixer 6th at 2550 dollars and three top awards. Hilma Henke tied grand and reserve champion females with HH Lady Mixer 16th and 18th sold for 1000 dollars each. Sargent & Son led females at an average for four head, buyers included W J Largent Son and C B Whitehead.
Fredericksburg attorney Victor Sageblel was named crew leader for Gillespie and Kendall Counties for the upcoming Federal census starting April 1. James R. Henley announced the appointment and said Sageblel will attend a Leaders' training in San Angelo March 7 to 14. Applications for enumerators are at the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce, with 13 to work in Gillespie and five in Kendall County. The census is to be completed during the spring of 19 2.
