The St James Lutheran Church women held a gathering on Wednesday January 25 with 20 members and the pastor present. Mrs Milton Cosper led a themed program Arise Shine For Thy Light Has Come and song Shine On Thou Star of Bethlehem.
The Methodist Church Board of Missions votes 18.23 million dollars for the fiscal year starting June 1 1956. The World Missions division receives 7.55 million for about thirty five countries while National Missions gets 2.61 million for the United States and possessions. The Woman's Division allocates 8.08 million for home and overseas service.
Harper Baptist Church Women Missionary Society met Wednesday night January 25. Mrs. B J Mayhugh opened with prayer and a mission study book on Indians The Tribes Go Up is set for February 28. Mrs J A Lennon led Bible study on John the Baptist and refreshments were served to the Brotherhood G As and Sunbeams.
Twelve outstanding Explorers from 538 councils will represent Scouting at national events in Washington and state capitals. They will visit the White House FBI headquarters and Mt. Vernon, attend a breakfast with lawmakers, and present a Report to the Nation on 1955 accomplishments.
Dayton Rahe of Harper attended a Western Auto merchandising show in Houston Texas on Sunday January 29 He owns the Western Auto Associate Store at Harper and is active in Lutheran Church and Legion Post 650 He notes Western Auto now spans the nation with 3510 dealers and 112000 merchandise lines from geiger counters to home freezers.
Walter T. McKay announces Milton F Wilfong will assume the duties of County Supervisor of the Farmers Home Administration on Monday January 30 1956 succeeding Wesley H Grote Grote transfers to San Antonio Texas Wilfong a Haskell native and Texas A&M graduate has taught in Haskell County Vocational School and served as Assistant County Supervisor in LaGrange Fayette County and Haskell since 1955 He is a World War II veteran and was praised as efficient conscientious and cooperative by the vocational school coordinator.
Church notices urge attendance at Sunday Masses 8:30 and 10, with sermons by Father Arno Hartmann and missionary instruction for youth and married couples. Weekly schedule includes Stations and Benediction, Holy Hour on Fridays, and a Mission Week with morning Mass and night services. Community events feature meals, meetings, and a Kerrville course for Christian workers.
McKay praises Wilfong as an excellent employee with the Farmers Home Administration and announces his promotion to County Supervisor of Fredericksburg Texas with pleasure.
