The USS Texas, one of the Navy's oldest battleships, earned a notable combat record by fighting off Europe, Africa, and Asia. Reports say the vessel may be transferred to the State for public viewing near the San Jacinto Monument outside Houston.
A group of ladies enjoyed a quilting party at Mrs. E. R. Brown’s home. Fredericksburg visitors included Mr. and Mrs. George Allen Gibson and their daughter. Schreiner Institute students Inez Whitewood and Loyce Whetstone spent the weekend with families. San Antonio resident Mrs. Walter Jungmann visited her parents. The Langes and Lorenz Wendels attended church in Fredericksburg. Kerrville residents Mrs. Burton Brown and son Kelly spent the weekend in Harper. Mrs. Fred Nabers visited her parents in town Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. James Phillips of Noxville shopped in Harper Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Parker and children were Harper visitors Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Bode were Harper visitors Tuesday. Albert Sagebiel visited Edwin Ahrens and family.
A long list of Harper and Fredericksburg residents visit with family and friends across towns. Posts note Army discharge of Eugene Kunz and Felix Klein, plus illnesses and recoveries, with numerous kinship ties among Fritz, Klein, Roeder, Stehling, Kunz, and Bauman families.
Admiral Chester W. Nimitz holds dual commands as a U.S. and Texas Navy admiral. A commemorative set of Texas Navy buttons bearing a Lone Star and an anchor, made by Scoville Manufacturing Co. of Waterbury, Conn., will be presented after the battleship Texas is permanently berthed in the Houston Ship Channel, with Gov. Coke R. Stevenson delivering the gift.
