How far a farm woman walked to water well
A USDA engineer calculates that a farm woman born and died on the same property made about four trips daily from house to a 20 foot distant well for 50 years carrying water. The 10 foot long well required downhill and uphill walks, equating to long cross-country distances and many trips up Pike's Peak. Home demonstration agents urge installing a farm water system and sewage disposal for value and labor savings.
