Congress Session Ends With Major Labor and Defense Reforms
The 80th Congress enacted key laws including a new labor protections bill and a big portal-to-portal lawsuit crackdown. It merged armed services under one Secretary of National Defense, ratified postwar treaties, balanced the budget, and extended rent control while halting several proposals such as broad immigration changes and federal aid to education. The session faced no large tax cuts and left unresolved actions on minimum wage and military training.
