The Eldora Community Club held its Monday meeting in the Masonic Temple where a $100 trade donation to the Hardin County Poultry Show was discussed. The by laws were amended to extend terms to two years with six new members annually, and meetings moved to the second and fourth Mondays. A member questionnaire will seek ideas for the coming year.
Governor Kendall proclaims November 27, 1924 as Thanksgiving Day in Iowa urging all to suspend ordinary activities and gather for worship. He lauds national prosperity and democratic ideals, calls for display of American colors, and affirms ongoing guardianship over the nation by Almighty God.
Hardin County Agricultural records show October dairy results with 207 households tested. Average production 654 lbs milk and 26.8 lbs fat per cow, modest declines from September due to grain costs and butterfat pricing. Jersey herd J N Martin New Providence leads with 658 lbs milk and 37.4 lbs fat. other top Holstein herds and notable producers listed, including Finstor, Mark, Nolte, and McCord. Tuberculosis association meeting notes urge countywide effort and school health programs. Annual meeting set for November 26 with amendment to article of incorporation proposed to expand board representation by city of Eldora.
The Near East Relief drives progress under C I Hays as chairman Albert Steinberg secretary and Rebt Yarwood treasurer. Dry Brown gave a strong appeal at Congregational Church following Miss McCormick's talk last Sunday. A quota of new orphans will be cared for in Eldora with three homes already provided by adoption. Mrs Greer assists in the canvas. Moving to Waterloo Mr and Mrs E A Mellnes depart next week for Waterloo where Mac has a new position with Kimball Printing Co, back to former employer in La veranda two years ago.
Firemen were out yesterday soliciting and selling dance tickets. They praised the campaign’s efforts and looked forward to tomorrow’s event evening.
Dreher and Co sold their implement business to H L Peterson and M H Bites of Northwood Town. Dreher stays on and will enter livestock work, with plans for the future undecided. Eldora welcomes the new firm and their families and wishes them success.
Red Cross volunteers begin a house to house solicitation in town to raise funds for the disabled soldiers. Mrs Soper serves as town chair and Mr Gazrd of Kadelife as county chairman as crews work on upgrades to a local plant and expect the new facility to be operable next week.
Notes from the Buckeye area report a new herd sire purchase by E J Lettow and a Clay township Farm Bureau meeting held November 16 with Irene Tietz as president and Evelyn Perry as vice president. Also covered are a Clay township club meeting, plans for winter meetings, and a local leader election. City council debates a new fire truck, November price ads from The Hall Co, Herbert Lynn’s ankle injury from a fall while electrical work, and a Brownie Goods Co. window feature.
Several residents at the local hospital report entries and discharges this week. Mrs Canvat B Larsen was admitted for cure on Thursday. Mrs Henry Cramer of Steamboat Rock had tonsillectomy Friday morning. Mrs Will Martin went home Friday afternoon. Mrs Howard Rubendall left the hospital Saturday evening. Mr John Krebenhooft of Mabbard entered the hospital Monday for treatment. Missionary speaker Mrs Huickly, a noted Methodist church worker, will give an address Friday afternoon at 2 30 at the church. Public invited.
A small town library suffered heavy smoke damage after a furnace malfunction filled the building with dense black smoke. Librarian Miss Wilson narrowly escaped while staff and volunteers worked days wiping surfaces and salvaging materials. Insurance covers about $250. upstairs ceilings and walls suffered significant damage requiring rekit. Community members and the board push to reopen while crews continue cleanup and repairs.
A roundup of school activities covers Reinbeck and Eldora basketball prep, Thanksgiving plans, and preliminaries for dramatic and oratorical contests. Rev. Potter spoke of Scotland, and Jello demonstrations by Milas Louise Peterson for Home Economics. Pep meeting, Patrons Day, and basketball schedules for girls and boys are listed, with holidays and flags display notes.
Local dealer promotes Albecht fur coats with a big line and full range of prices. A regular salesman will be present with detailed samples and prices for all customers. Event set for Friday November 3 with doors open and opportunities to view the collection.
