A miscellany of verse and prose mixed with state news from an Iowa paper. The humorous poem proclaims the author’s identity as Mud and laments fame, while the following notes critique liberty, taxes, and industry. It references Balkan tensions, relief aid, and quotes James J. Davis on humble origins of ideas. Also mentions Judge Kenyon declining a cabinet post and advice to farmers to test seed corn.
In tribute to L M Harris, Eldora residents recall his service in church and civic life. The piece notes the town cannot afford such a loss as it lists his valued contributions and the respect he earned from many locals. It also covers upcoming band tax votes in nearby towns and ongoing political chatter.
Local chatter centers on Eldora post office job prospects with a yearly salary of two thousand six hundred. Eldora township debaters received a hearty send off after a Friday meeting, celebrating the group that won the state prize. Citizens note the post office scramble, with many filing blanks and considering potential entrants, while spring signals arrive with robins and cardinals in view and weather chatter on April showers and May flowers.
A mosaic of small-town notes and jokes spans community life. Mentions of weather, quartering, fairs, weddings, and local events mix with humor about Bloomfield politics, golf prizes in California, and Legion frolics. Several vignettes touch on jobs, spirit, and daily routines as residents brace for spring.
Mrs Thomas Knutson died Friday at her son George Knutson's home after pneumonia. Funeral held Monday with Rev J J Lee officiating. Relatives from Northwest Tipton area visited J K Towley's home while Lila Towley cared for the sick. The Reece class at Clear View school enjoys a two weeks spring vacation.
Miss Amelia Doering was an El Dora caller Wednesday. Mr and Mrs Ole Harris and Olaf Harris were Iowa Falls callers Friday.
