Owasa Board May Seek Extra Year for Reorganization

The Owasa board and the State Department of Public Instruction reached a tentative agreement to allow another year for reorganization. A Citizens committee surveyed district members in April and voted 127 to 8 to continue efforts to leave the district. Attorney Freed of Gowrie was hired and a petition challenged the state aid withholding. Mrs. Bob Smith Buried Here in Eldora At 75

Funeral services for Mrs. Maude Estelle Smith age 75 of Eldora were held at Andrie Creps Funeral Homes with Rev A P Kidwell officiating. Burial followed in Eldora Cemetery. Survivors include husband Robert E Smith, son Robert Sherrill Smith and grandson Robert Jerry Smith. She was born December 14 1884 in Portsmouth and married in Grundy Center in 1906. She was active in the Eldora Congregational Church.

Annual Missionary Conference Planned At Baptist Church

The Eldora Baptist Church announces its annual Missionary Conference from Sunday, September 25, to October 2. Rev. Lyle Jessup, veteran Dominican Republic missionary, will speak at both services next Sunday and every night through Friday at 8 p.m. Rev. Robert Ryerse of Baptist Mid Missions will join Wednesday to Friday and speak as well.

Revival Meetings At Union Church

Revival meeting at the Church of Christ in Union continues this week and next led by Rev. M. O. Maher of Minneapolis Minnesota. Maher recently became Field Representative of Minnesota Bible College and serves the Cascel church. He gained notable WWII service with the North Atlantic Division Air Transport Command and is a 1950 Minnesota Bible College graduate.

Billy Graham Film “Africa on the Bridge” Union premiere

Billy Graham’s Safari for Souls is the theme of a new feature film “Africa on the Bridge.” The Union premiere will be at Community Church on Sunday September 25 at 8 p.m. The documentary covers 17 African cities from Monrovia Liberia to Cairo Egypt showing Africa’s transition toward independence. Woman suffers facial burns in jar explosion incident

Mrs. Harry Ruddick of New Providence entered Eldora Memorial Hospital Monday evening for medical care. She suffered facial burns when a jar exploded while canning with a pressure cooker, injuring her face.

Jim Hough of La Habra Calif arrived Saturday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Hough before heading to Chicago on business. Lester Farmer and wife plan a Friday trip to Sidney Ohio to visit their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs Newell Hartrum. Emma Willig Lillie Ruhnke and Gladys Worrall were guests Thursday evening in Hubbard at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snider. John Evans of Marshalltown and his wife joined Sunday dinner at the Gig Reid home. Harold Shaw attended the funeral of Lowell Shadle in Lytton after a tractor accident at Jefferson. Shadle leaves a wife and two young children. Alfred Uhlken and wife visited Worthington Minn with his sister. Chris Claassen and family spent Sunday in Atkins. Warren Davison and family of Mason City were weekend guests in Eldora with Bob Davison and relatives.
