Pirates Win One Lose One Racing Through September Events

Pirates split the week with wins and losses as September events unfold. Baseball games at Hubbard and New Prov, softball rounds at Union-Whitten Steamboat Rock, and a field of hitters led by Mann Ehlers and Jaspers reflect steady team activity and rising averages.

Girls Top Owasa In Five Inning Softball Game

On Tuesday afternoon September 13 the girls softball team beat Owasa 16 to 13 in a five inning home game. Boninie Pierson earned the win as pitcher with a lineup including Phyllis Bell in right field. The team Dip record improved to two wins and one loss and next faces Owasa on September 22 on their field. A sectional game versus Wellsburg follows on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at Union with Wellsburg and Steam Boat drawing byes.

Juniors Decide Play Plan and Start Driving Class

A class meeting was held Thursday to decide the type of class play and its presentation date. The morning drivers training class has nine students: Rosemary Campbell, Delores Crosser, Margaret Bright, Dale Hartman, Dennis Holmes, LaVerne Wabben, Larry Mients, Dave Asher, Darold Frerichs, and Ronnie Pierson. Last Thursday the group went to Eldora to apply for instruction permits and driving began Tuesday of this week.

Previously she taught in Livermore Iowa, where she taught vocal music and band.

Community Sunday School met Monday evening in the church joint room for final bazaar preparations. The bazaar is set for Wednesday October 18 ordered to raise funds for Navajo Indian children near Gallup New Mexico for Christmas gifts.
