Polio Patient John Roupe Services Today at Eldora Church

Services for John Robert Roupe 37 of Eldora will be at 2:30 p m today at the First Congregational Church. Roupe, a polio patient hospitalized for nearly seven years, died Tuesday night at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. Interment will be in Eldora cemetery with military rites. He was a WWII Army Air Force veteran and a bookkeeper, member of the Congregational church, Masons, Eastern Star, and American Legion.

Long Battle Against Polio Inspires Eldora Community

John Roupe fought polio for seven years with courage and faith, inspiring local support as Hardin County's National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis chapter spent over $8,000 aiding his care and visiting him at home. The town and state contributed to fund drives to help Roupe endure the disease and cling to hope.

Rites Held For Eldora Woman’s Mother Mrs Margaret Bradley

Services were held Wednesday morning at Fort Dodze for Mrs Margaret Bradley mother of Mrs Margaret Otto of Eldora. Mrs Bradley died last Sunday evening. Interment was in St Patrick cemetery on the Lizard at Fort Dodge. She is survived by seven children Deloria Jean Nancy Louise Dean Raymond and Joseph Otto of Eldora. Their mother attended the services and returned to Eldora with them.

The average temp was 78.60, high 101 on August 1, low 54 on August 31, seven rain events totaling six inches, heaviest 3.4 inches on August ath. Grace Pot ter Miller's Ackley holdings placed in a June 27 trust filed July 26 naming Ralph Miller of Chicago and George L. Nissly as trustees. The trust includes 320 and 120 acre Franklin county farms, a 400 acre Grundy county farm, lots 5-12 in block 16 Ackley, various stocks, a note from 1953, and utility bonds. Trustees to pay Mrs. Miller income monthly, with discretionary use for disability, and Ralph Miller as tie-breaking decisionmaker in disputes. Full distribution to the grandson after Mrs. Miller's death, or to Karin Miller and their children if Miller dies first, then to Mrs. Miller and her descendants upon eventual termination.

Steamboat Rock to vote on $146000 school bond issue

Steamboat Rock voters will go to the polls Tuesday in the town hall from 22 noon to 7 p.m. to decide a $146,000 bond plan to convert the gym into classrooms and add a new unit with a gym, music room, industrial arts and vocational agriculture space. The bond would be repaid over 20 years with an initial annual payment around $10,875, gradually lowering to about $9,062.50 per year.

D. F. Talbott of Garner named special gas promotion representative for Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. covering Eldora Iowa Falls and Reinbeck. He will relocate his family once housing is found. Talbott has years of service in Cedar Rapids Chariton Garner and previously headed Garner promotions. He served as a first lieutenant in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Eldora schools and county courthouse offices will be closed all day next Monday for Labor Day. The Eldora Chamber of Commerce also recommends that all local businesses remain closed on that day.

Radcliffe district officials announce a late August opening for Radcliffe schools with about 600 pupils. The remodel has been completed and nine bus drivers plus substitutes will operate alongside newly assigned teachers including principal Edwin Dethlefs and superintendent W Hubert Johnson. Ackley Woman 77 Charges Man Held In Florida

Florida detectives arrested George B. Dewey 57 on charges of fraud against Grace Potter Miller 77 of Ackley. He allegedly obtained forty thousand dollars from her and procured a warranty deed to a 120 acre Franklin county farm valued at forty thousand dollars.

Wife of late doctor linked to $100000 swindle case

Sheriff says Mrs. Miller gave more than $100000 to Dewey allegedly for motel investments in Daytona Beach and other properties. Dewey, posing as minister and traveler, was captured by St. Petersburg detectives and waived extradition. Funds included $17,000 in bonds, $40,000 on farms, and $35,000 plus other sums to prop up alleged investments. Suspicion grows as details emerge.
