Terry Stilley son of Mr and Mrs Manley Stilley Eldora recently served in the armed forces band that played for President Dwight D Eisenhower at Smoky Hill Air Force Base Salina Kansas.
To Teach Here Trenery traveled with Horace Heidt Ernie Young and Jimmy Barnes. The Trenerys have taught dancing five years. Enrollment for the first class Oct 30 at the I. C. O. halt Mrs Merlin Reid Eldora is now taking enrolment.
The Hardin County 4 H committee announced county level honors for Laurice Streyfeller Marilyn Tysdahl Alvin Clark Diane Thompson Roberta Thompson Barbara Wegner and livestock club nominees David Smitherman Lisle Cook and Arvin Haywood. The banquet will be held at Iowa Falls on November 14.
Kenneth Cook of New Providence has been named Swine Superintendent for the 1953 Little International Livestock Show at Iowa State College on November 14.
George Fagg of Eldora has been pledged to the national fraternity Alpha Tau Omega at Drake University in Des Moines. He is a sophomore in the Drake College of Business Administration.
In the opening kickoff LaPorte City launched a sustained drive to the Eldera 35 before stalling. La Porte halfback Don Frericks, chased by Marlin Stirm, led the advance as the Tigers moved into scoring range.
Bill McCall has joined the Dickson Hardware staff as a serviceman in charge of service work. He will handle heating installation gasoline engines and electrical equipment. McCall was formerly employed at Smith Motors.
J H Bremmer of Eldora reports the death of Frank Kephart a former Eldora resident at his Alameda California home Kephart who owned a bakery in Eldora about ten years ago is survived by his wife and daughter
The New Providence adult evening class in agriculture begins Monday night November 2 at 7 30 pm in the agriculture room led by vocational ag teacher Mel Powers. The program covers dairy cattle, windbreaks, farm fuels, farm outlook, concrete mixtures, rat control, meat production, home shop, livestock diseases, and soil fertility through films lectures and discussions. Residents from any district may attend.
Lyle Hubbard doing business as Hubbard Implement Co. filed six judgment actions with Clerk Fred Miller for merchandise allegedly sold. Claims include $29.24 from Laurence Balvant, $55 from Paul Hornung, $67.29 from Russell P. Hurd, $15.60 from William Mathews, $15.00 from Cecil Meyers, and $27.93 from R. A. Pinske.

Three youths escaped serious injury when a car driven by Robert Kolthoff 20 struck a tree on the river road and plunged into the Iowa River near Towa Falls. Stella Brannick 21 and Darlene Waldo 18 were passengers. Brannick sustained a hand and foot injury. only a small part of the car remained visible as it sank.
Fire destroyed the one and a half story farm home of Roma Aman about 1.25 miles east of Union at 11:30 Sunday night. Fire units from Union Whitten and Eldora battled the blaze but the house burned to the ground and could not be saved.
Final rites for Cpl. James Lee Wallis first Korea War casualty from Hardin County will be held at 2 00 p m from the Congregational church Eldora. Rev. Ralph Imes to officiate with graveside military rites by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post. Wallis of Eldora son of Mr and Mrs Paul Wallis was killed in Korea around July 20 1950 after arriving July 6 1950 in Korea from Japan. He served with the 24th Division 19th Regiment 5th Cavalry and was in Korea only fourteen days. His body to be buried in the family plot at Eldora cemetery. He was born April 29 1931 in Jewell Iowa and attended Eldora schools graduating 1949. He enlisted December 12 1949 and went overseas May 1950. He is survived by his parents three sisters and three nephews with many relatives and friends. Pallbearers listed for the service. Eldon McVeety to sing with accompanist Mrs C R Johnson.
The annual children parade will assemble at Eldora High School at 1 00 pm with kindergarten through fifth graders. Afterward the group will watch Parade of the Wooden Soldier at the high school gym. A pep band leads. Junior and senior high students attend a free movie at New Grand Theatre. Rotary and Kiwanis provide treats to curb vandalism.
W Henry Galbreth assistant executive secretary of the Iowa State Extension association will address the Hardin County Education association dinner in Iowa Falls Thursday evening. The topic is The ISEA and Its Program with Galbreth explaining services and member roles. He is Midland Schools editor and state publications director, on ISEA staff since 1951. Dinner starts at 6 30 p m with Kermith Huehn in charge of arrangements.
Record County reports its 8th and 9th traffic fatalities. The Pine Lake Wildlife club will sponsor a family fish fry at the clubhouse north of lower Pine Lake Friday with serving beginning at p.m. and continuing until 8 p.m. Three hundred pounds of Walleye fillets will be served. The regular Pine Lake Wildlife club meeting, postponed last Thursday, will be held this Thursday evening.
Hardin county records show the eighth and ninth traffic fatalities of 1953 after a tractor and car collided on Highway 65 six miles south of Iowa Falls. John F. Beckstein, 67, of Hubbard, died at the scene. Lee Smith, 57, of near Iowa Falls, died later at a hospital. Beckstein’s car rear ended Smith’s Minneapolis Moline tractor, both southbound. The accident, under investigation, left wreckage scattered, gasoline leaking along the roadway.
Funeral services for Lee Smith who died in an automobile tractor accident six miles south of Iowa Falls Thursday evening will be held at 2 pm today at St. Pauls Lutheran church. Rev John Zimmerman to officiate with St. Pauls choir and organist Mrs Walter Guenther. Pallbearers named Huffman Barz Fiscus Dannenburg Stein feldt Granzow. Flowers coordinated by Mrs Walter Granzow Mrs Minnie Granzow and Miss Meta Dobbrunz. Smith born Sept 20 1896 died Oct 22 1953.
Joe H. Kramer, Eldora auctioneer, real estate and stockman, announced he rented office space in the Griffel building for a livestock marketing and real estate office. The former Hodgson furniture store location will house the new venture. He said plans are not yet ready to be announced.
Mrs. Jeanette Wickey of Eldora served as chairman of the second annual problems clinic for high school commercial teachers of Town and the American Institute of Business at Des Moines. She also was master of ceremonies at a complimentary banquet at Younkers Tea Room.
Ralph Boylan aged 20 and Delores Meeks aged 17 were issued marriage licenses. The lines indicate a formal record of nuptial permission granted to the couple. Adjustments may be required per local legal age standards and parental consent rules.
Six south Hardin county towns name candidates for November 3 elections. Whitten will use a complete write-in ballot as no candidates are listed for mayor or council. New Providence features a treasurer race between Maynard C Chance and Earl Mil Jer.
Eligible voters in the Alden school district will vote on a $225,000 bond issue Tuesday. Brochures outlining background and prospects were distributed last weekend, prepared by Supt. A. O. Larson and the consolidated school board. The bond funds would finance changes and added facilities. Voting will occur at Alden city hall, with a single polling place.
About 30 acres of corn were picked by Gene Foster helped by neighbors on Saturday. Foster, with a broken hand, has been hampered this fall. Beach owned the corn pickers used. Riders included Charles Ruby Carleton Wiesner Abraham Wilts Clarence Wickham Melvin Pence Owen Young Joe Beach Charles Beach and Glenn Paul.
Eldora’s Little Tigers 3 1 1 season meet Grundy Center in a homecoming clash after losing season opener to the same Grundy squad. Team features players Murray Hubbard Mike Crosser Mike Langebough Roger Martin Jim Follett Dick Scott Paul Martinson Larry Mathews Larry Teske Dale Mitchell Ronnie Walters and others under coach Paul Gates.
