Eldora United Fund officials expressed cautious optimism after a Monday night report showing $10,423.75 in donations toward the year’s campaign, $2,500 short of the $12,994 goal. Chairman Gary Brinkmeyer urged continued calling and gifts from all sectors to reach the target.

The Iowa Nurses' Association will hold its 70th annual convention at the Holiday Inn in Ames from October 21 to 24. About 500 registered nurses are expected to attend, with the theme Nurse Autonomy and Accountability.
Roger Norem aged 20 of Radcliffe died after his semi trailer struck the rear of a parked truck on Interstate 90 near Victor about 6 30 this morning. He was pronounced dead on arrival at an Iowa City hospital. Norem drove for Houck Truck Line in Radcliffe.
Donald Charles Sodnefield 36 of rural Alden died in a one vehicle crash on a Franklin County road in Oakland township near Alden at about 12 10 a m Wednesday The 1904 Chevrolet pickup rolled over more than two times and landed in a ditch Bruce Nelson Cordex 20 a passenger was treated and released from Ellsworth Municipal Hospital Deputies from Hardin County assisted in the investigation and the truck was a total loss

Ray Anderson of Iowa Electric Light and Power Co in Eldora was named finance chairman for Hardin County Republican Party at a GOP Central Committee meeting in Iowa Falls. R. R. Brown remains county treasurer. A Nov 3 dance at Highland Country Club Town Falls was announced, and Anderson was named county ticket sales chairman for the State Republican Dinner Oct 30 in Des Moines headlined by Gov. Nelson Rockefeller.
Eldora Community School will not hold classes Friday October 19 so faculty and administrative members may attend the Iowa State Education Association convention in Des Moines.
Eldora merchants prepare for Moonlight Madness Monday from 6 to 10 p.m. with special bargains and low prices. The Hardin County Index lists items offered at mad prices and some stores also feature daytime specials.
Parents and other interested persons are invited to tour Fildora Elementary School during an informal open house Wednesday October 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. Principal Larry Reed says all rooms will be open and teachers will answer questions. The event aligns with American Education Week October 21 27. Annual elementary parent teacher conferences are set for Friday November 9.
Eldora FFA organizers plan their first Hay and Grain Show on December 10 at the Eldora Elementary School. Open to Eldora Community School District residents and adult agriculture class alumni. Entries must be grown in 1873 crop year and arrive by 4 p.m. Show includes judging, an evening program by FFA members, prizes, and potential lab testing fees.
Builders from Precision Builders of Eldora report progress on the Nevada Federal Savings and Loan office to be located east of Heraldades Publishing Company on Edgington Avenue. The 2,000 square foot one-story building will house teller areas, waiting rooms, lobby, and private offices with walk-in and drive-up facilities. A north-facing front and drive-up window at the rear, plus north side customer parking and south employee parking are planned.
Eldora City Council approved the Langfritz sewer and water permit agreement for a new home on 8th Avenue, adopted the codified municipal code, and accepted a 11 month budget totaling 1,197,600 with 1,406,105 to be raised by tax. A recreation plan contract with Harrison Associates was approved, with total costs 3,500 funded by city and grants. A portable police unit and licenses for Rainbow Lounge and Larson's Restaurant were approved, with next meeting set to discuss rezoning for town houses or condominiums.

Five directors were elected to Mare din County Agricultural Society board at the annual meeting in Pidora Youth Building. Re-elected are Wayne Fisher Alden Fred Fuller Iowa Falls and Everett Shrathe Hubbard. New directors include Stan Granzow Klara and Gene Miller Hubbard replacing Gordon Reisinger Eidora. Holdovers include Forrest Huston Union Carl Letlow Iowa Falls J Whitehaiad New Providence Cecil Rooks Eldora Wayne Bartholomew Midor James Johnson Eldora Richard Lauterbach Alden James Armundson Radcliffe Willan Moore Inna Fally and 2 A Scott Eidora. Rooks serves as president of the group which will meet later. Building and improvements were highlighted with plans for a new display building and youth building improvements.

Incumbents Ritter and Virginia face newcomers Everett, Buldu s, Michael Crosser, James Appleston, James McClellan, George Martinson, George Tosel and Marvin Walker.
Heather Schradle daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Schradle will represent the Milking Shorthorn breeders at the Town Dairy Princess contest in Des Moines on Oct 30 31 at the Hotel Savery. A 1972 New Providence High School graduate and Iowa State University sophomore she holds leadership awards and was National Milking Shorthorn Queen. She will compete with 32 other dairy princesses for the title and receive a college scholarship wardrobe allowance and other benefits.
The off Broadway 862 revival of Cole Porter’s Anything Goes will be staged by Hubbard High School on Friday and Saturday November 2 and 3 at 8 p m. The joint drama and music project features students Murshay Lee Terri Hueser Marleny Simmerman Mark Dubherke Greg Jensen Bob Carel Mary Lyon Hueser Joy Krueger Julie Usehkrat Darlene Krueger Becky Broer and Lorrie Collins. Patricia Shelveland directs music with Kevin Knack assisting. Bill Reynolds handles stage and drama direction.
