County approves 18 month budget in Hardin County
The Hardin County Board of Supervisors approved an 18 month budget for January 1, 1974 through June 30, 1975 in a unanimous vote after a public hearing at the courthouse. Auditor Robert Barr noted total need of 4,075,279 with 2,030,236 raised by taxation and said no new levy until 1975.

Interment will be at Jackson Two Cemetery. arrangements are by Andrie and Creps Funeral Home. Swaggart, born December 30, 1888 near Osborn City Kansas, died Tuesday at Eldora Community Hospital. Survivors include son Ernest H. Swaggart of Eldora, daughter Arlene Dickenson of Sioux City, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was married to Herbert Steven Swaggart in 1911.

Alternate Routes For 520 Highway To Protect Farmland
A meeting of the Hardin County Regional Planning Commission Wednesday night discussed a possible Route 520 freeway to protect the Town River Green Belt and minimize farmland damage. Attendees included commission members, representatives from the Town State Highway Commission, Bob Henley, Richard Bassett of the Hardin Soil Conservation District, Jim Johnson, Extension Director, and county supervisors Whitehead, Knight, and Lettow. The plan would use county roads to access the new freeway and improve northern county routes, with 520’s alternate routes on the agenda. Hardin County’s portion of freeway construction is slated by the Highway Commission for 1978.

Body of John Ellis Found After Buckeye Dragging Operation
Hardin County authorities recovered the body of John Ellis 62 after a Wednesday afternoon dragging at a Buckeye quarry. The incident began Tuesday evening with a one car crash in the quarry area and an empty vehicle found by Logsdon Park. Ellis had lived in Hardin County about a month and was originally from Red Oak. Further investigation into the death and circumstances was ongoing.
