Eldora doctor retires moves to Texas after 30 years
Eldora physician Dr. John J. Shorts announces his retirement at 57 due to ill health from diabetes. He and his wife will move to Brownsville, Texas in December. Shorts and his late father-in-law Dr. Nyquist built a long family practice here, serving Hardin County for decades, with two sons and a granddaughter among their relatives.

To Begin Repair Of Library
Eldora Public Library will install a new heating system as part of a renovation by the board of trustees. The project, discussed at Monday’s meeting, will later add central air conditioning, a new front entrance with steps and windows. Interior work is planned for a later date. The library received a $15,000 grant from the Kinney-Lindstrom Foundation of Mason City and has $10,000 of its own funds for the renovation.

Eldora attorney William N. Dunn suffered a heart attack at his office on Monday November 11 and is recovering at Mary Greeley Hospital in Ames. He was rushed by ambulance from Eldora Community Hospital to the Ames hospital and is expected to remain in intensive care for another week.

Adult Agriculture Classes Opened With 1974 75 Series
The 1974 75 series of adult agriculture classes starts Monday November 18 at 7 pm in the New Providence school community room. Lawn Hill Co op sponsors a supper and Chuck Bailey of Felco Land O Lakes will discuss hog and beef operation management and marketing. The meeting is open to area farmers. Eldora reports three inches of snow and cold up to 49 degrees with 24 at observation Thursday morning. Jim Sween write-in candidate for county attorney defeated incumbent Allan Oppen of Iowa Falls by 302 votes. Official totals show Sween 2 558 and Oppen 2 256 after canvass. Elect ARC Officers For 1975 In Eldora Meeting
Hardin County Association for Retarded Children elected new officers at a Monday night Eldora meeting held at the Second National Bank. Kate Christensen is president with Alice Pool as secretary Marilyn Bachman treasurer and Julie Wielbrenner vice president. The group planned a fund drive for Hardin County residents not yet part of a community or united fund and noted ARC scholarships and support for local programs. Funeral services for Miss Virginia P Haas 87 were held Thursday at Longenecker Funeral Home Eldora. She was born in Conrad and spent most of her life in Eldora as a teacher and church member. She is survived by a brother and several relatives.
