Ferris announces a farewell sermon at Steamboat Rock Presbyterian Church next Sunday May 4 and will depart May 5 for Fairfax Missouri. City crews led by Dr. R. E. Gray and Charles Stage planted more than 100 trees shrubs and flowering plants at the Eldora City Dump. New Providence high school sent the boys quartet and two vocal solos to the state music contest at Vin ton last Saturday. Bob Moon earned a Division I rating for his baritone solo and Allan Pool a Division II rating in bass. The quartet consisted of Allan Pool Bob Moon William Broer and Donald Beach with Mrs Wanda Dummermuth as accompanist. The school band and choral groups will compete in the state finals for large groups at LeGrand next Saturday May 3.

Complete Plans For Getting Out Vote In County
Farm Bureau leaders in every township in Hardin county have completed plans for a month long drive to get all eligible adults to the polling places for the June primaries. The bi partisan drive will contact Democrats and Republicans to nominate the best candidates for public office. Mrs. Emory Lake will head the drive with a statewide committee including Maurice Cook and local leaders in each township. The effort uses direct mail, telephone and in person reminders, broken into township and school district divisions with volunteer directors named for each township.

A hole about 6 feet wide opened in a field on the Orville Vigors farm southeast of Idora when Ray Roling plowed. The ground collapsed, the tractor narrowly passed, and Roling estimated a 12 foot deep cavity with water and a crevice beneath. It is regarded as a miracle the tractor did not overturn.

Nellie F Hudson dies in Marshalltown at niece’s home
Nellie F Hudson died Wednesday morning in Marshalltown at the home of her niece Mrs Dan Turner after a short illness. Funeral services are planned for Saturday at the First Methodist Church Eldora. Born March 4 1868 she taught in Hardin County and Eldora High School before moving to Grandview Washington in 1912. She later taught in Staples Minnesota for 17 years retiring in 1932 and returned to Eldora. Surviving are brother B F Hudson of Mt Pleasant Tennessee three nieces Blanche Hudson Genevieve Hudson and others.
