National 4-H Week March 7 to 15 highlights over two million youths in the program worldwide. In Hardin County 195 boys and 289 girls belong to 4-H clubs, with 57 local leaders guiding projects in farming, homemaking, leadership and teamwork. Families and civic groups support the clubs, and adults are urged to encourage and assist the 4-H organization to aid Hardin County youth.
Years ago strong community changes unfold in Eldora area with Aldora Business Men’s Association forming directors to raise funding for coal prospecting. Sargent buys printing plant stake as Eldora post office adds free delivery. marriage licenses issued. First National Bank records a million-dollar burst in late February into March. a mix of fires, road plans, and social events appear across years 1903 to 1943 with local residents, businesses, and schools noted.
Lynn Glenney of Union, son of Mr and Mrs Paul Glenney, recently completed a platoon leaders class under the officers procurement plan for college students. He now holds corporal rank in the reserve and will receive his Marine Corps commission upon graduation from Iowa State. Weekend guests included Floyd and Mrs Peterson of Kasson and their daughter. Numerous local residents were listed as visitors, trips, and social hosts in Union and surrounding towns.
Rumors suggest Eldora may open another area for housing just beyond the city line. At the Junior Senior banquet, an elder asked how far $1,000 could go toward 4 youth programs lasting 12 months, hinting at practical, lasting youth support. Short, last year’s cribbage champ, leaves for Texas but can’t take the 1953 trophy.
The Eldora scene features Senator Bateson teased over a misprinted bill promising judges a hefty salary increase with odd phrases like per ear. Vidora center stage as non residents pay $1 for a century long permit and pledge to promote the Centennial June 25 26 27. The N X office shelves rich local history photos as the H L Souvenir Centennial edition nears and asks for new contributions from readers by dusting off old pictures.
New Providence residents hear weekend visits and birthday gatherings as Rev Worthy Spring and others attend the Pastor's Short Course in Oskaloosa. Fairview school district election set for March 9 with six candidates. voting noon to 7 pm at township hall. Community notes include visits from university students, school staff moves, and local family news.
Jex and another daughter Lois and her husband Johannes Melnts spent the weekend in Ackley with the Sayer family. On Sunday they visited the parental Sayer home and shared a day with relatives.
