Governor Budget Talks Draw Mixed Reactions in Iowa House
Lawmakers aired views on the governor’s proposed budget last Monday with disappointment at perceived offense over suggested changes. The session reviewed spending trends since 1967, noted revenue-sharing and tax shifts, and debated regulations from HMO acts to prepaid health plans. A credit life insurance bill received support, while routine Mick ey Mouse procedure arguments stretched time. The Higher Education Committee wrapped the day and prepared revamps for the Higher Education Facilities Commission as visitors from the district gathered. Committees plan hearings next week with the Department of Environmental Quality and Development Commission.
