Rev John Zimmermann elected president of Iowa District East

The Rev John Zimmermann pastor of St Paul Lutheran Eldora was elected to a four year term as president of the Iowa District East of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. About 200 delegates attended the Cedar Rapids convention. He has served as second vice president and held multiple district roles. Zimmermann has five children and connections to Eldora, Wheaton, Montivideo, Concordia and Odell.

John Newby Hurt By Paratrooper Chute Malfunction

Post Office Window To Close July 3 Afternoon

Eldora Postmaster John Tomb announced the local post office window will close Friday afternoon, July 3, for observance of the July 4 holiday. All other services including rural, city and special deliveries will be completed as on other days.

Enter U. S. Army inductees from area reach training

Jerry Waugh of Eldora and Arnold D. Fisher of Steamboat Rock were among 46 inducted into the U. S. Army at Fort Des Moines and sent to Fort Leonard Wood Missouri for basic training.

Methodist Church Story Hour For Local Children

The United Methodist Church will host a weekly Story Hour for children aged four through third grade each Wednesday in July from 10 to 11 a.m. Mrs Merril Cobb, Mrs Fred Leonard and Mrs Vie Reist will oversee the sessions.

Plan Meeting On County Wide Railroad Crossing Disrepair

Hardin County League of Municipalities will hold its monthly meeting on Friday July 10 at the Iowa River Conservation and Improvement Club lodge Steamboat Rock. Attendees include Senator James A Potgeter Roger Ivie from the Railroad Association Kenneth Benda from the Iowa State Commerce Commission and a Town Highway Commission representative. Also on the agenda is the proposed Hardin County sanitary landfill disposal system. Eldora Corn and Soybean Growers Contest Entries Due

The Eldora Chamber of Commerce and Tawa Crop Improvement Association sponsor the 11th Eldora Master Corn and Soybean Growers Contest. Entry deadline is Saturday July 25 with fees 10 dollars for corn and 8 dollars for soybeans. Open to Hardin and adjoining counties. 1969 winners were Ben Juchems Conrad for corn and LeRoy Asweg(an) Eldora for soybeans. Further details to be announced later. Paroled in Drug Case James Philben Sentenced

James Patrick Philben was found guilty in Hardin County District Court of possession of narcotic drugs for personal use, a misdemeanor. He received a two month Hardin County jail sentence with probation suspended on good behavior and was placed on probation to Hardin County Sheriff Lowell McCormick for one year.

Hauser Speaks at Wisconsin Feed Convention

James V. Hauser owner of International Supply Co. Eldora spoke at the 45th annual Wisconsin Feed Seed and Farm Supply Association convention in Milwaukee on grain banking pitfalls and operation ideas. He is a former Iowa Grain and Feed Association president and serves on the National Grain and Feed Association board and its research advisory committee.

Eldora School District proposes 4.6 mill tax hike for 1970 71 budget

Eldora Community School district trustees proposed a 4.6 mill tax increase as part of the 1970 1971 budget. Expenditures would rise about six percent to 891 536 in the general fund with total needs estimated at 698 537 to be raised by taxes. Major rises include salaries 30 000 librarian 8 000 two new aides 6 500 custodial pay 2 000 and junior high guidance 2 000. Simons cautioned equalization aid and county funds could reduce the levy.

Rites Set for 92-Year-Old Effie Chaney of Hardin County

Effie Chaney 92 lifetime Hardin county resident died Wednesday at Valley View Nursing Center Eldora. Final rites Saturday June 27 at 1 30 pm Longenecker Funeral Home Eldora with Rev. Dewey Lamprecht officiating. Burial Eldora Cemetery. Survivors include two sons Theodore of Rockford and William Jr. of Boone, 10 grandchildren 14 great grandchildren a brother Duke Newby Ackley and a sister Mrs Charles Lynk Ackley. Funeral party includes pallbearers and flower ladies. She born April 1 1888 Gifford. Attended Kodist Church. Married Willison Chaney May 28 1905. he died Sept 21 1967.

Tully Named ITS Clinical Director

Fred Tully has been named Clinical Director at the Town Training School for Boys in Eldora effective July 1. He replaces Dean Luxford who resigned to become Superintendent at St Albans Correctional Facility in Vermont. Luxford began his new duties June 15 after 18 months as Clinical Director.
